Olives And Gherkins..Horrible Or Is It Just Me?

I don't have take-away burgers that often but if I ever find a sliced gherkin in my bun I have to take them all out. I once saw an advert to that effect and found it funny as I thought it was just me who did that. It was a burger ad as well!
I have also tried olives on pizzas and I have to say, I don't like them much either.
I am the world's worsed for being fussy with my food. If I see onions I take them out but I can use them as flavouring so long as they are fully dissolved. I have a jar of onion granules too which is invaluable as a cooking aid!
So, are you like me? Do you have to fish the gherkins out of your bun and take olives off your pizza? Or do you love them...why do you love them?

The pickles I can take or leave, I love olives, and I like onions as long as they are not raw. I am very NOT picky about my food and will eat almost anything that isn't brussel sprouts.

especially if they are overcooked and taste really cabbagey...

Eating brussel sprouts would be like having a mouthful of sick in my mouth, that's how much I hate them. The only food my hubby hates are Yorkshire Puddings. I envy him because he will eat virtually ANYTHING.

Olives and Gherkins are awesome.
I love olives and have them regularly as we sell them and always have them in our home. I have not had Gherkin for a long time though. Back when I used to eat McDonald's burgers, I always got everyone else's as they did not like them. I would end up with heaps! I remember when I was a kid, the local McDonald's had two storey glass windows and people used to take theirs out of their burgers and throw them as high up the windows as they could.
There was always gherkins stuck to that glass!

I would definitely be amongst those people chucking gherkin pieces onto the windows. That's where they belong in my opinion. You are very strange (if you don't mind me saying so) having "heaps" of such a disgusting food on your plate. The thought of it is making me feel quite poorly.
Haha!

I order my sandwiches without pickles, I don't like olives on pizza and won't order or eat with any on them.
I will eat onions, but ONLY when they are cooked, raw onions don't like me...
I actually like pickles, sweet and dill, but not on a sandwich, unless its a PICKLE sandwich. (Used to gross out my coworkers by making them!)

I used to eat pickle sandwiches all the time when I was a kid. My mom thought it was weird, but didn't really say much about it.
nyhollyjean, I have heard of cucumber sandwiches before, but I have never tried one. I might have to try that sometime.

Gherkins are a bit on the slimy side too, aren't they? Yuk!

I actually quite like pickles on my hamburger, and am known to put an excessive amount of them on the burgers my dad grills here at home. I think they're the best part of the burger! (I think I may do that to drown out the taste of the meat though as I don't really care for the taste of the burger itself.) I do agree with you about the olives though, never really understood that attraction with those tiny things in pizzas and such.

I quite like salad with burgers...nothing too adventurous..mainly tomatoes and lettuce so the burger isn't too dry.
Gherkins though...er, no. I ate a slice by mistake once and it really didn't agree with me at all.
Glad you like them though...I think!
Haha!

Oh, I love gherkins, I just think they taste really nice and they make a veggie burger much tastier. I can't stand olives though! My son and one of my daughters like olives, but I can't eat them and have to take them off anything before I eat it.

I find the sliminess of gherkins offputting as well as the taste but I'm glad someone likes them lol. I'm glad you have a dislike for olives too. Haha!

Hi Janey..DITTO! I hated pickles that they put on burgers when I used to eat them and I can't think of a word strong enough to describe how much I hate olives. When I was on cooking school, we had to work with olives a lot. It seems, most people like them and we were taught many dishes that included them somewhere. I just can't get past that taste and find it overpowers whatever it touches. Why would anyone want to ruin a perfecty deicious pizza by putting black olives on it? YUCK.

I am sooo glad there is another person who thinks exactly like I do on this subject. Well done! Haha! I know exactly what you mean; why spoil pizzas and the like by putting olives on there, it doesn't make sense does it?
I do believe that gherkins are similar to cucumbers in taste...well, I have to say, if cucumber slices are on the thick side I can't eat those either. They have to be wafer thin or "forget it!" God, I'm strange!!

Not everyone can have the same taste in pickles. I love olives, both green and black. I like black olives over green ones though. i also love gherkins over dill spears. i have always loved olives and so does my family. Gherkins are a favorite pickle because they have just the right amount of sweetness to suit me.

Have you eaten them all your life? Is that the reason you like them so much...got used to eating them so to speak? If they weren't available anymore (for whatever reason) what would you eat instead?

There is also a building in London known affectionately as "The Gherkin!"
Check it out below, it's one of my favourite buildings, I love it!
