Gmail hacked?

I have not long ago tried to log into my gmail and got a message stating that I needed to change my password or what not because there had been some suspicious activity or what not. Then, I saw where an email had been sent to some of my contacts that I didn't send. It was some link or what not. Well, my husband had it happen yesterday and then his aunt had it happen today. Has anyone else had this happen recently or know what the problem is with it? Also, when you click on the disability link next to the box that you type in the special characters, it sounds like someone hacked that too because the letters and numbers are all jumbled up like several are being said together and then a voice comes on to say "once again" in a weird voice before the jumbled mess is repeated again. Anyone having that problem too?
