How do you describe an old school boss and how do you respond to him/her?

I am currently working and I, together with my other colleagues really find our boss an old school. The environment we have is very quiet and filled with tension most of the time. I don't find it comfortable. Boss' doesn't know how to delegate tasks and always involve his self to other people's work. I mean to the point that he doesn't know anything about it - out of his field. He dresses up nerdy and seldom smile or laugh. I feel hypocrite when i'm in front of him because i have to relate well with him. After all, he's the boss. But, duh...he's boring! =(

How long has this guy been your boss? If he is new then maybe he is being a little more severe - to establish himself. Interfering in tasks outside his area is a headache, I can imagine. Maybe again it is his way of stamping dominance. Not everyone is a good boss, there is rarely any training after all. As a teacher of adults I am responsible for controlling the environment and somrtimes too much messing around can lead to major problems too, so it is a hard situation. Not dure that dressing 'nerdy' is very relevant to your other (important) issues. Is there a way to ask about 'team building' exercises which may help address the concerns you have? Good luck.

nah he looks nerdy and acting like one, too. actually i coined the phrase "old school boss" from the others who were there months ago. i've only been 2 months and even on my first day, i noticed his character. he's just weird. think u are right about him stamping dominance. at first, i thought i was the only one who noticed it and since i was new i remained quiet until i heard my colleagues joking about him. there's team building and training but he's the trainer sometimes and those who were under him really felt bored, tired, and pissed off. good for me i was under another trainer who was fun. however, he also opposed that guy most of the time.

I guess I should say I also have a troublesome boss, but luckily I rarely see her. You are right to be thinking of moving on, life is way too short to waste it in a bad environment day in - day out. One day you will look back and laugh about it perhaps :) I wonder if he knows he is unpopular? It must be hard to know it and not be able/willing to do anything to change. I have given up trying to rescue situations - once they irritate me I try to move on. Good luck mate.

I wonder how its going to be dealing with the boss like that. Our boss is not old school but he definitely doesnt know what he's doing. He doesnt know what a manager's job is and I am also pissed of by that. I guess we all have different things to deal with especially when it comes to our jobs. I dont know exactly what yo say about your concern cause I too have problems with my boss.

well yeah, my boss is an old school boss. he also doesn't appreciate people. as in literally always complain about something even small things. he doesnt take advices and opinions. he never congratulate someone for a job well done no matter how good it is. he always finds a mistake even if there's none. to the point that he will just find a synonym word to replace a word used on the memo. lame! when he's not around, everyone is happy working. =(

Better to have that kind of boss than to have my kind of boss. My boss makes up stories about me just because I don't want to cooperate with him being corrupt. Scenario? He tells lies about me to the board of directors. Caught him twice doing that.

sorry to hear that. well, mine is different, too because he's one sided and he always believe our HR assistant who always make up stories and acting like a leech to the point that there were rumors that those two sleep together. good thing that i won't stay there for long so i just try to ignore them.

i had a boss who used to think he could talk to anyone any way he wanted until he came across me. he would call people bad names and make them look like jerks. then one day he started on me, i just told him i am not like the rest of the workers who will sit there and take it., yeah i lasted three days and not still if i got fired or i quit. more fired since i called him a dumb muther f***Ker, stuipd sob and so on

Hello hushi22, All of us have concerns about our boss. Boss is like other people we deal with everyday. What I'm trying to specify is the characters we're dealing. He maybe nerd, silent, talkative, inefficient, inconsiderate so we have to dance to the music because we are just employees. Yet, I also consider that sometimes our boss got its own sorrow to deal with that sometimes people around him got affected. We just have to be considerate sometimes as long as his not crossing beyond the line. Have a great day mylotters!!!
