With regards to speed and resource management, it's definitely AVAST. But I'm not so familiar with AVAST's antivirus capacity, is it better than SYMANTEC or the same? By the way, avast is cheaper than symantec. Thanks for the responses. I'm currently using SYMANTEC, but it makes my computer slow. I'm planning to change to AVAST, but is it safe? or safer?

well dear.. you are asking which is better Ferrari or Local Auto brand. it's ofcourse Ferrari.. in my view symantec is far far better than Avast in comparison of resource utilization, protection, blocking attacks, user friendlyness and decision maker.. only thing is you need to pay more symantec. but it's really the best antivirus among mostly all products..

I've read some notes claiming that symantec is a good anti-virus software with a downside of being a resource hog. What symantec version are you using sir? I'm currently using symantec endpoint protection version 11.0, and my computer takes about 5-10 minutes to start after logging-in. I already removed my start-up programs a long time ago. I already tested my computer with the same programs installed without using symantec and then with symantec installed. It showed a big difference in speed. Unlike when I used AVAST, it's almost similar to when not using Symantec.

I am using 12.0.122 of Endpoint protection. but if it's not necessary to use client-server antivirus then you can go for corporate edition. it's also very less resource using.. May be you have configured startup scan or may be start up loading of antivirus might have made slow start up.. just check the settings..
Good Luck..

I have ever use both Avast and Symantec. I don't like Symantec since it was make my computer run slower. I never compare about the performance in removing viruses between symantec and Avast. But I prefer to choose Avast since I can install it in safe mode of Windows XP. When my computer was infected by viruses and no anti virus software could be installed due to blocked by the virus, I tried to booting my XP in safe mode. I succeeded to install it then plan to performed on booting scan. Avast could remove most viruses. Then I remove avast from my computer and install McAfee 8.5 to clean all viruses. Now, I use McAfee 8.5 combine with local anti virus software. I only use Avast only if my computer has infected by viruses. I don't like use avast as my main anti virus because it bother me when find viruses and never take the action by it self. Avast always show warn and ask me what to do. Some time this make me confuse and bothered me as well. While using Mcafee, it will take the action when find viruses by cleaning, quarantine or deleted them.

I like this AVAST feature too. The boot scan enables you to remove those hard to remove viruses on windows. Thanks for the information regarding your experience with AVAST, so it's hard to use because it cannot decide on its own.. I see, I'll check if you can configure it to automatically fix the problem it encounters.

I like Avast a whole lot better. It's faster and I feel its safer than Symantec. Symantec slows your computer down, only to do the same thing Avast does while keeping your computer at optimum speed. You're better off switching to avast.

We had tried Avast before and I assure you, It would make your pc start up very slow. I'm not familiar with Symantec though. I think you should try AVG. It's really great, It's not making our pc very slow like avast did plus you can get the serial key that will last untill feb 2018 in the internet..

really? avast really does that? may I know when did you experienced this? was it a long time ago? because I have installed AVAST PRO 4.8 in some computers and it was starting up better than Symantec (so damn slow). I think I would pass up with AVG. Before when I tried AVG, a lot of viruses were found when I changed my anti-virus software to Kaspersky.
