family or career? which comes first?

my head is really aching thinking what would be a wise decision to either work far with good experience or just work in the same town with family around.

It depends on what you mean by family. If you are referring to wife and kids, then they come first no matter what. If you are talking parents, and they don't need you in order to function, I would have to say career, hands down. It's a tough choice, but whichever you choose, you must deal with that choice. Remember that you cannot go back, and if you end up regretting the choice, you may not be able to correct it.

In my opinion it should be family first. That's why recently I gave my career for my baby. Because I know my family is my priority. Without them, my career will be useless. They are the reason why I am working. But if I will be away from them and sacrifice my relationship with them, that will be a big problem for me.

If you do not have a career then there is no family life also, because to run a healthy family it needs money and money comes by working so career is as much important as the family matters, For me I will always choose the career.

For me, family comes first. I had a career into my 30's . . . and then I got to start another career by becoming a full time mom!! I get to spend quality time with my children during their precious years and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I am in the creative field, I can go back to the working force with my own business . . . I've had a lot of time to think of my strategies. I'll dive into my career again once the kids are both in school full time - which will give me the time - possibly in another 5 years.

If I didn't have children, I would say that my career would be very important to me and I would put my time and energy into it. However, I do have children and a fiance that I hold very dear to me. I try to balance work and life, but it's becoming very hard because my work is very demanding at times.

I think it is a personal choice that only you alone can make, depending which is better and more sustainable for yourself and your family. Personally for me, my family always comes first. For my children, my life is on hold. When my children are older then I will pursue a career for myself.

It's a personal choice, like others already mentioned, but for me, personally, the answer is clear: always family!

FAMILY should come first.. career can be flexible, and family would always understand anything that will be good for you..
