There are now 6 families of cygnets living on the canal at the back of my house - on pair of swans had 8 cygnets - I just hope that the foxes keep away from them. The foxes, pike and herons usually see off all the baby ducklings. This is a picture of one of the earlier cygnets that was born several weeks ago with my daughter feeding it

I love to feed the ducks, geese and swans but the only time we get to is when we go to the zoo! I think that is my favorite part of the zoo and could spend forever there feeding them if they would let me. I do get to feed racoons here! I have a mother with 6 little ones that come up on my porch at night looking for handouts and I try to always have something for them.

I just love the racoons. They are so curious it can get them in trouble. We had a little one once that had lost its mother and we took care of it till it was big enough to be on its own then we let it go. My daughter had come over one day and told me there were racoons in our tree at the top of the drive, so when she went home she 'cooed' to them and these 3 little babies walked down the tree and right over to her and up her pant leg!!!! They were starved! So we fed them put them in a cage, 2 escaped during the night, but the one stayed about 3 months.

Do you get many ducklings, we don't - loads of cygnets, goslings, moorhens and grebe but hardly any ducklings - but as I said earlier the other wildlife seems to take a fancy to a bit of duck

Hi Oldchem, yes there are plenty of everything as there is also a RSPB place near the estuary too, I wil see if I can get some pics of the black swans next time I go to Dawlish which is a nearby town, there are always plenty of ducklings though especially on the pond in the park where we got our tadpoles from earlier this year. I do hope too many aren't nabbed by the foxes and pike though, sad, but nature of course. Huggles. Ellie :D
