Getting married in front of the justice of the peace will run you around $100. You don't have to worry about the elaborate gown or venue. But if you wish to get married in a more formal setting here are some things I did to save money:
Made food for reception with the help of my mom.
Aunt made my dress - But often times you can also find wedding dresses in second hand shops and they are pretty inexpensive.
Cake - We bought but ours was much larger then we needed. So talk to the bakery and pick the right size cake, don't over do it because it will go to waste.
Venue - Was my mom & dads front yard for the ceremony and reception in the back yard. They live out in the country so we had pastures to park cars on.
All in all our total wedding expense including gown, food, and cake was about $500.00.
