I am pretty sure the snakes are afraid of garlic. Not maybe afraid but they don't like garlic and that's what we use to get rid of snakes when we are in the area prone to snakes. We did that during our camping in the woods with lots of snakes. We even experience one tine that snakes are under the mat of our tent.. woooohhh scary.. something is moving under the covers? I hate to think about it but we use garlic.. we pounded the garlic and put it around the area and the snakes run away. Did you experience that too?

Garlic are good for our health. I never knew it can scare snakes away.
That is a very interesting information. I read about the people in 'Medieval
era' used garlic to scare the evil spirits and vampires. Thanks for sharing,
I learned something new today. All the while I only know that people use
sulfur to avoid snakes. Now we have alternative, something common and easily
available that we have in our kitchen - garlic!

That's right!! we experienced using that during our camping in place where there are lots of snakes around. Snakes became weak in the presence of lots of pound garlic. They don't like the smell of it and might be the reason they run away.

I totally agree that garlic is good for our health. I absolutely LOVE it! From what I understand, garlic helps to manage cholesterol, boosts the immune system, and has cardiovascular system benefits. There are probably even more benefits.
I too have never heard of garlic scaring away snakes. Lord knows I hope I never encounter a snake. However, I've been known to carry a small shaker of garlic around in my purse from time to time when going out to eat, so hopefully I'd be prepared if I ever encounter a snake. LOL

I have never heard of garlic to keep snakes away. But I do know that sulphur and/or hydrated lime will keep them away. The reason those two items work are they are in a fine powdered form. When the snake sliters across it it will dehydrate their body and burn them, so therefore they stay away from them. The garlic may work in the same fashion but I'm not sure exactly how as fresh garlic is rather moist in comparison.

I have never heard of this. Do this work on all kinds of snakes or some of them? I wonder what triggers the snakes to run away from crushed garlic. Hehehe I would love to have garlic with me if I were to go to a jungle camping or something like that.
But nice info right there. . .

Maybe the strong smell of the garlic. This was the only thing we did when lots of snakes are around our camp site. They even have holes right on the spot where we had out tents that's why when they come out from tho holes they stayed under the mat of out tent.. whew!!

Now i know how to get rid of snakes, in our province we can find snakes around the house specially during summer. They are not the poisonous ones but they really are scary. Sometimes they go inside our house passing through the open windows and doors. They come from the hills at the back of our house and sometimes we can see them crossing the highway. Some are big as the leg of a ten year old but some are still small. My father tells us that on summertime, snakes feel the heat under the ground so they come out to cool their body.

I haven't heard much about garlic with snakes, but I did read that garlic will help rid animals of fleas. They don't like the smell of garlic. I can honestly say that I don't blame them because that is an awful smell!

Hi, Bebs08. I did not know that at all. I have heard about Sulfur, but not garlic. I think that I would be afraid to camp into the woods just knowing about the snakes. I think that this would be very scary just knowing what could be crawling at my tent and onto my body... Thanks for sharing this advice with us all.

It's also a good way to get rid of your enemies-and friends too. Just chew some garlic and then go have a nice chat with someone you don't like, and chances are they'll stay away.

I never live in an area full of snakes; I live in the city but thank you for the information. I just know this now; snakes being afraid of garlic. You know what garlic are also use here in the remote areas of our country as means to counteract the witches. Garlic are versatile ingredients for our health. It has many useful benefits.

Hi, Bebs.
What nice information you brought here. Actually, I have never heard of that garlic can fly snakes away. Maybe snakes don't like the strong smell of garlic. Despite of the reason, taking a bunch of garlic or sulphur with us is definitely a good choice when we go to the jungle for camping or climbing. Hehehe... Well, I hope I will never encounter a snake. Thanks for your sharing of nice information.
Have a nice day and happy mylotting!

Garlic is stinky! If I were a snake, I'd run away, too! LOL...Seriously, maybe there are chemicals in the garlic that turn off the snake so they run away.

Maybe that's how the vampires' fear of garlic was born. Because both have fangs! LOL

Never heard about it, but here in the Philippines, our old folks believe that garlic can get rid of demonic creatures or something like that. Well, maybe they were referring to snakes, i don't really know cause I've never tried it before. Thanks for the tip.

Whahhhh! I am so scared of snakes! And your experience with snake is so scary. I don't know what will I do given that same situation. But your tip on how to drive away snake is one thing really new to me. Thanks Bebs for sharing. I think before going to any place where there could be snake I must spread garlic juice all over my body first. Ha!ha!ha! Surely I'd smell so terrible that snakes would not even dare to go near me.

This reminds me of the movie Holes when the yellow spotted lizards are averse to the onions and peaches.

Really? Ive never heard of that...? Apparently, humans are the snake's biggest fear, normally, they would just run away after seeing one, but for some reason it's the other way round! Snakes don't attack for no reason, only out of fear and being threatened. Other predators such as birds also eat snakes, so I think snakes are going to be scared of the, plus other predatory animals. Snakes are also cold-blooded, so can't really remain active for long without sunlight, so if you're really confronting a snake, if you can, you can try to struggle with it for as long as possible until it tires out, although staying away from it would be more recommended!

that's right!! staying away from snake is a better option but when they come near to us or enter our house, we must get rid of them before they can bite us. When humans are scared of the snake the snakes are scared too and the reaction is, whether the human kill them or snakes will bite to protect themselves too. So, the better way is to let them go away by using garlic.
