Is Cozumel a good choice?

My family and I want to go on a vacation next year, and my moms friend suggested Cozumel as a good place to go that isn't super expensive. I tried finding information about it, and it seems mostly the only thing to do there is snorkel and scuba dive? Has anyone even been to Cozumel before? What are your opinions on it? What place would you recommend traveling too instead? Share your travel stories and opinions, I'd love to hear them!
