I love the sound my phone makes when my boyfriend calls me in the morning, the sound of him saying "I love you," and ripples of laughter. I like seeing little kids playing, sunshine on the flowers, and cute puppies and kittens. I like tasting ice cream, bacon, cake, MILK! (though I am, sadly, lactose intolerant), and muffins. I love the feeling of silk beneath my fingers, the pages of books flipping between my fingers, and the softness of a baby's skin
I like the smell of fresh baked cookies, that wonderful smell of bacon sizzling in the pan, and vanilla. Any kind of vanilla-ish scent is WONDERFUL to me.
All of my senses are important to me, but I think I would give up my sense of smell. I know what things smell like, and it's not like anything TOO bad could come of not smelling ever again. My sister has lived without the sense of smell since high school (about seven years ago), and she lives just fine.

Thanks for your contribution MischiefFilledMe, Interesting to read that your sister lost her sense of smell. Has it affected her sense of taste also?
I love the discriptive things you have added... Ah, yes! The smell and sound of cooking bacon and fresh coffee first thing in the morning.

It is really hard to lose even just one from our five senses. But if I really have to choose, I think I can live without my sense of smell. Sense of sight, hearing and touch are very important for me to function well in everyday living. The sense of taste is also important so that I can enjoy whatever that I am eating. Without the sense of taste I will definitely lose appetite and that will make me weak. Sense of smell is not as important as others, because without it you can still move freely without asking the help from others, and if ever there is awful smell, I am lucky that I cannot smell that.

Thanks dian, but there are some great smells around that we smell all day where as with taste it is only really used for drinking and eating. That was another reason I chose this one to lose as I love being able to smell the freshness in the air especially after a heavy fall of rain when everything seems clean again.

I guess if I absolutely had to give up one of my senses I would choose taste. Since you can't taste without a sense of smell, choosing to loose that one would actually cost you the loss of two of them. I definitely wouldn't want to give up seeing, hearing the voices of or the sense of touching the people I love.

As you rightly say spalladino, losing Smell would affect ones taste.
Sight is a valuable thing to see natures beauty, Hearing natures sounds is wonderful and to be able to touch and feel natures different textures are just too much to give up. as well as what you say about those 3 senses.

Hm, tough question! I'd probably choose to get rid of my sense of smell if I absolutely had to. Though I know that would directly cause my taste sense to not be as strong. But I'd still be able to taste things without smelling them and I'm fine with that. I think most people would choose taste or smell as the ones they'd get rid of. I don't think I'd choose to be blind or deaf. I love seeing and hearing and I don't think I could handle doing without after being alive and having them before, you know? I love taking pictures so I couldn't part with my sense of sight, and I love listening to music too much to want to get rid of my hearing sense. I love touching things and feeling textures and I think it'd be so weird to touch something and feel nothing. Numb all the time, that would be really awful. And I love good food, so I'd need my taste sense still intact. But smelling isn't nearly as important to me as all the others!

Thanks for your response callmecat. For me food is only there to keep me alive I never really enjoy eating and am looking forward to the day that I can get it all in tablet form, hehehe. Think of the time I can save from cooking, washing up and eating. More time for me to be on here!
As for losing my sense of smell, I would hate that. I love the fragrance from flowers and not to be able to smell danger - ie. a burning fire, could be hazardous.
