Would you opt to become a vegetarian?

My friend had just told me that she was given the mandatory "shape up" or you'd kill yourself by the health doctor.. Even if she had been walking, her body is fast becoming "old" for her age. And so she has willed to go vegetarian and fruitarian.
When I related to my daughter my friend's predicament, she said that that is how they tell you nowadays if you are healthy or not. Her 65 year old professor, a vegetarian since he was twenty, was told by the university doctor that he has the body of a 24 year old. True enough, my daughter said, he can out walk any of the students in the campus.
I am considering going vegetarian. Would you?

Well, I already am a vegetarian and I've been one for almost four years. So yes haha. It's becoming common knowledge that a vegetarian diet (done correctly, not just eating fatty, greasy foods) is very healthy and extends your life. (I think I read being a vegetarian for 20+ years could actually extend your life by another 4 more years) Though, I dunno about how true that statement is. But I can see the logic and reasoning behind it. So many people eat too much meat.
We're not strictly carnivores, we're supposed to have a variety of foods. Including fruits, veggies, grains, etc, etc. A diet high in fatty meats like beef will surely clog your arteries and shorten your life. I think if you want to be healthier, I would cut out red meat. Because that is the most toxic meat to our bodies. Not to mention the side effects of all the environmental issues like meat companies cutting down acres and acres of rain forest for cattle to turn that cattle into meat/burgers/etc. It's a horrible process. And it's not good for you, so why do it?
But anyone that is thinking of becoming a vegetarian should do some research because for their body type it may be dangerous and you could get an immunity deficiency or something like that if you're not substituting the right foods for your meat. But talk to your doctor and they can lead you in the right direction of becoming a vegetarian or at least cutting out the majority of your meat intake for a much healthier lifestyle.

I love meat so I wouldn't make a good vegetarian. My best friend and her husband have all gone vegetarian and they are having different health problems, I can't think it isn't because they have given up everything and replacing it with supplements. I can see changing eating habits and we have done that for healthier things but I don't think 100% is the healthiest way to go.

That is a good idea. She has a health program that they are going to and through. Really worries me with some of the things she does and comes up with. It seems everything is a substitute, supplement, artificial, etc. On the other hand she has lost a LOT of weight, but also had dizzy spells, sugar spikes, nausea, etc. and the Dr. can find no cause for it. I haven't talked to her in a few months.
Best of luck to you.

I have already made the change. My reasons are not so much for health reasons but are for spiritual reasons. The Holy Scriptures show that in the beginning we were only to eat the fruit and vegetation. Health reasons are secondary for me.

A friend of mine was recently forced to refrain from meat, including seafood. Surprisingly, his skin glowed, and he is much better, all because of the vegan diet.

I think I would love to eat healthily.eating healthy can help make your life longer.it can help prevent diseases related to becoming overweight.having a good body because of proper diet and exercise is a plus factor.I would opt to go vegetarian, but I won't give up dairy products like milk and cheese, eggs, and seafood.

Sounds fair enough. How does that saying go? An ounce of prevention is better that a pound of cure? Shuckks, I just know that is not the way the saying goes...

I am trying very hard now to become a vegetarian, not the strict kind though. My doctor has warned me that since I am getting older (not old, mind you), I will have to watch my diet considering that my family has a history of diabetes and heart diseases on both sides of my family. The shift is not so difficult now because about ten years ago, I went on a heath nut binge and avoided (not totally) pork and beef. But still sometimes, I still crave for lechon (roasted pork).

True, I cannot resist the kare-kare at Cabalen and the fried chicken at Max. Max is celebrating - eat all the chicken you can. Sigh! My daughter is prodding me to a pig out!

Hi,
Noooooo way. I am crazy about non-veg dishes. I like fish, meat and every article that discusses about them. I also love people who love to talk about these dishes. Non-veg is my obsession and even if I have to die of infection, I won't stop eating these stuffs. I hate fruits. I will eat them when I will get old and hospitalized. What will I do of a body of a 24 year old? Will I keep it in museum? Will I take it along with me? Will I let the biotechnology professors do experiments on my young body? Nooooooo. I don't want to stay young. I want to eat fish and meat.
Thanks.
God bless you

yes, i am almost one. almost because i rarely eat animal products. this is not because i don't like meat because i do. it's just that my body does not react nicely to consuming too much animal products. i have flare-ups (inflammations) in my hands, feet, etc whenever the amount of animal protein in my body reaches a certain level. different animal products affect me to different degrees. i can get away with eating more of some types of animal protein than others. for example, beef will cause me to flare-up sooner than chicken. i have spent several years observing my reactions to different foods and i have just recently come to the conclusion that the animal proteins were the culprit. so i've been eating more vegetables and fruits. i don't know if i can ever go truly vegan tho.

I've considered going vegetarian, mainly for the animal's rights reasons, but going vegetarian can be the healthier option depending on what your previous diet was like. The vegetarian option is not always the best or perfect, because a lot depends on what you eat in that vegetarian diet, it's not a case of just eating lots of vegetables and fruit. It matters that you eat as broad a range of vegetarian foods and get the right proportion of each type of food in the diet, because some vegetarians do go deficient especially in iron , so many often have to take iron tablets. I myself am slightly anaemic and the with the way I am, being nutritionally undernourished, I have been told that a vegetarian diet isn't really suitable for me...apparently it is not suitable for children to go vegetarian either as they require a much more mourishing balanced diet as they grow. A while back, there was an article in the news about a lady who got charged with neglect of her children and found guilty by the judge, as she forced her children to become vegetarian as she was one herself, and as a result her children developed health problems, and was reported by social welfare workers I think, obviously the lady was probably not balancing the food well enough for her kids...

Yes,I am tring.Vegetarian is healthier because the low risk of disease.Nowadays we produce meat by industy and the animal eat much chemical staff which has potential of pollution. And cancer diseases increase.Another reason is fatty food can cause blood vessel troubles.Anyway green food is cleaner.

What about the chemical spray for plants? Carrots now, they say, are so perfect not even worms would eat the orange carotene.

If things like this happens to me, I will definitely switch to vegetarian food only because health is what the most important thing. Indeed, a wise man once truly said “Health is Wealth”. You are what you eat. What you eat affects your health. When you do not watch your diet, your health faces problems. Health is important for numerous reasons. For one simple thing, we all want to live a long life, right? We all want a free and fun life, right? Well one factor to a long good life is good health. So do what your doctor say. Go vegetarian, if possible. All the best!!
