What is your choice about electric-operated(battery) vehicles for both two as well as four wheelers? Since few are seen in the market, can they provide good economy and technology solutions over the traditional fuel operated vehicles at this present time? Please express your views in details!!

I would say go, go, go, e-vehicles is somewhat the trend now especially for those who want to save money versus the high costs of petrol. And several countries now I heard, are pushing its citizen to use e-vehicles, especially e-bikes. One example is the Netherlands where 1/8 of the bicycle riding public now favors e-bike than ordinary bikes and mopeds. Even in Canada, they are starting to notice this technology. And in China, I heard motorcycles are not allowed anymore in the streets.
In the Philippines, most government agencies and the local government dads are pushing for the use of e-cars and e-bikes for their staff and employees that uses cars and motorcycles - its maintenance-free, gasoline-free, and environmentally friendly.

Electric operated vehicles are an environmental hazard due to all of the batteries they have to use. They also do not even come close to providing the speed, convenience, space, length of driving time, maintenance costs, and distance that a hybrid car has. They are practically worthless because you have to sacrifice weight for speed and momentum. As a result, you have to sacrifice space to get the load light enough to even propel the car forward. You can't even get out of most states on one charge alone, which is horrible in places you would have to evacuate for something like a hurricane. Your electricity bills go up due to the charge which in fact defeats the whole purpose of saving emissions. Because you are essentially using more electrical power, which is producing more carbon emissions by the power plants.
In short, they aren't an environmentally responsible, financially feasible, consumer viable replacement for fuel powered cars.

Thanks Sier for this nice response! In fact, the role of Science and Technology is to find ways and means for many impossibilities before us! We cann't say as impossible because all the achieved equipments those we have now, were felt to be impossible by people one time. Let's hope for electric vehicles in future on the roads!!

i thought of having a motorcycle. i think i saw it somewhere in Palawan and told myself that i have to get one for me. if i have a chance to buy it, i will exchange my motorcycle fueled gasoline. one thing i wish to clarify. i think the battery still needs electricity to charge the battery?

Electric vehicle is one of solution to reduce pollution since this vehicle doesn't use fuel so there is no carbon monoxide emission be produced. Electric vehicles as an alternative in overcoming the scarcity of fuel. However, technology of electric vehicle need to be improved since the power of this vehicle is too far less than vehicle that use fuel. This vehicle can't use for long journey. The battery need to be recharge after two or three hours used. Time for recharge the battery is not compare with the usage. As my experiences, I have electric motorcycle use six dry batteries, 12 volt each can be used for 2 hours and need to be charge about 8 hours to fully charged. It's not efficient.

I think electic need some thechology problem before really replace gas motor .first need more light of battery ,now the cellar is too weight .second ,you need increas the volume of battery then at leat you can drive the vechicle ta least 100-150 mile ,and more important ,how to short the time of charge and constructure the net of charge station, only you deal with these problems great then ,you can really using Ecar success.

Yes Mark, we are living in an age of improved gasoline fuel vehicles and semi-improved electric vehicles! Hope, improved batteries must be made for this and our roads will have charging stations at regular intervals for long distance travellers!
Thanks for this nice response and have e-car success!!

While I wholeheartedly approve of electric car technology(and the advancement of said technology), I don't think that total electric vehicles would be completely green.
The reason the cars wouldn't be totally green is because we have to take into consideration the source of the electricity. Is the electric plant operated on petrolium products, wind/solar power, hydro, nuclear, or some other source?
In areas where the power plant is operated by renewable resourses, the cars would in turn be green, but in places where the power plant is fueled by petrol products or other 'not green' resources, the cars would not be as green because they are still using non-renewable resources in the long run.

Both of these responses of Mir & WJAA are nice! By batteries as driving force, we can control environmental pollution and heating due to exhaust gas also! Charging them for daily use can be done by our domestic power supply! Thanks both for this nice response and analysis. Hope the vehicles in future years will be driven by developed batteries those can also be charged by renewable sources!

Mitraa,
To be honest, I feel that these battery-operated motorcycles and cars are a good idea, however, I do not think they can replace the current petrol guzzling counterparts.
I just feel that the countries around the world would really have to prepare the support infrastructure to let these battery-operated transportation operate. Furthermore, they are not so popular or common as they are not up to par with their petroleum counterparts in terms of performance.
The current so called electric operated vehicles are actually using rechargeable batteries which have a lot of limitations as far as power is concerned. Like petrol models they need to recharge after a certain duration of time or distance. Though these models may help improve our living environments by reducing air pollution but we cannot really say that they do not consume another vital commodity which is electricity.
Besides, these batteries will also have a limited life span and once they are expired will pose a health and environment hazard if they are not properly treated and disposed.
You may proposed solar energized cells for these vehicles but then we will have to ask if the cost of such technology would make the eventual cost of manufacturing these cars or motorcycles to increase to astronomical levels making it almost impossible for the average income earner to afford.
I think these are the very concerns currently which is causing much concern and hesitation for these mode of transportation to be fully implemented.

Yes Sky, your points are really researchable among scientists working in this field! I hope, these can be well solved to develop electric vehicles of desired performance! Let the battery operated toy car of children be modified to a real and efficient vehicle on our roads! Thanks for this well analysed response!!

i say anything can be good if we choose it to be. probably when a lot of vehicles are already electrically operated, then, the price of oil might go down. also a lot of improvements in such vehicles can prove only for the betterment of technology.

I would absolutely love to have a four wheeled one for our family. My husband only works a couple miles away from our house and I seldom venture very far from the house either so it would be a great thing for our family to have access too. I've heard that there is going to be a fully electric vehicle that will be available in the near future, but right now the price is ore than we are able to afford. I can't wait until it is a technology that is accessible to everyone.

The advantage is that battery produce less pollution. Battery operated vehicle on run on a lower cost because a typical car running on battery can run for 69 kilometers on a dollar worth electricity. Batteries recycle well; almost 100 percent batteries can be recycled. This takes care of their disposable problem.
A car running on a lithium ion battery can travel a distance comparable to IC engine vehicle with full tank of gas but the disadvantage is that you have to recharge for an extended period at the end of that time. It is a serious disadvantage.
To get full advantage we will have to wait until a faster recharging technology becomes available. Besides, battery operated cars are comparatively heavy. The lithium-ion battery pack in a Tesla Roadster weighs about 1,000 pounds (453.6 kg). That is a lot of weight to carry and it can greatly reduce the car's range. Now they are trying to reduce the weight of entire care to merely 1 ton and that gives battery operated car an added advantage.

These vehicles can really make a big difference in our home planet. Imagine the pollution we have today. Imagine if we could make all the cars electric cars. Less fueled cars less pollution. So if we want to save our planet. we should support electric vehicles...

They're practically not seen in market but they bring incredible benefits when it's about enviroment protection...Fuel vehicles are a poison to nature, which i think is their negative side

Mitraa there are quite a few in t he US and they are o rdinary four wheel behicles but just run on electrically charged batteries.oh how much fuel they would save and how much cleaner the air would be. I think their time has come and if they did become prolific charging stations could be set up all over the cities. of course the oil producers will not be for this but I think we need to rethink old technology and start with new and better vehicles that are not run on expensive gasoline.

In India these types of vehicles are quite rare in four-wheelers. But in two-wheelers, a new brand of scooty "YO-BIKE" has gained certain popularity among young and old people! It covers a range of about 100kms in full charging of eight hours at average speed of 30 to 40 kms per hour and it is light also with two sitting design! Let's hope for more vehicles with electricity as the driving energy in near future for a better economy and better environment!! Thanks for your informative response!!

I don’t know that much about electric cars. I can see how much more environmentally friendly they would be as well as economical. I wonder how long the vehicle would take to charge an how long the battery would last because I imagine a new battery may not be so economical…I am quite ignorant on this subject but it is an interesting one and I look forward to seeing how electric cars develop in the future.

I think so guys. It's the best way to decrease our addicted to fuel/gas energy that these all just limited natural sources. Electricity is unlimited energy we can made from any sources. And it also can solve the pollutions and global warming problems. Have a nice day.

Hi Mitraa
Buying a vehicle whether two wheeler or 4 wheeler is a life time investment for we middle class persons, hence needs reconsideration from several angles.. i had enquired about the electric bikes , they said it requires daily charge, in new condition it will run 20kms only, means if i can't recharge it on route i will stop there.. second there is no after sale service centre, that is a must..
So dropped the idea..
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always.
Cheers.

Ya if the technology is sound and can save money sure why not.The problem with my country now , is that green technology car like Pyrius Toyota hibrid are taxed 200% therefore when they enter the local market it is expensive. It is treated as any foreign car regardless green hyrid car. This is to protect the stupid local cars. If the price is affortable and save petrol sure i will get. Meanwhile, my country also research in mixing hybrid car engine like palm oil/cooking oil with petrol engine. But only for show , did not see any promotion.Maybe good for grass cutter only.Haha.

I believe that the electric vehicles can provide good economy and technology solutions. It is very good for the environment because it doesn't produce smoke. Electric vehicles are slow though... I think.
