Morning Glories and keeping bugs away

I have some morning glories planted growing up my porch and I was wondering if anyone has some natural ways to keep critters away. I dont want to use anything bad for the environment, or something that kills the critters, I just dont want them around. I tried dissolving cyanne pepper in water and spraying the leaves, but that didnt seem to work. Any natural ideas would be appreciated.
