I think there needs to be a balance. There are people who have a lot of money and are unhappy. There are people who don't have a lot of money and are happy, but there are also those with money and happy and those without and not. It is what is inside of you that counts and will dictate whether or not you will choose to be happy or not.
Your lifestyle will also dictate how much money you "need". You make a choice to live a certain way and then in order to do that you have to have the funds necessary to make that happen. This will determine whether you feel successful or not.

I won't disagree that there is the fallback thought "if you are rich, then you must know what you are doing and are therefore smarter, brighter, more capable than I b/c I am not as rich as you". There are many people who I have come across in my life who are monetarily better off than I am, BUT the choices they make in their life, do not deserve my respect. It matters to me, and should matter to others, what a "rich" person does with his or her life, and how he/she conducts that life. Unfortunately what happens is that the "rich" are put in a position of power as a default and then greed and power become more important and principles fly out the window.

Well, maybe some people think so, but I certainly don't. I think being successful means having what matters to you, and for me personally, that would not be money. I would be happier if I had more time and the ability to travel more instead. So I would consider myself successful once I had that, not when I had more money!

Yes it is true we all look at the rich and famous with envy. We think WOW what must it be like? But if we think it is all that really counts in life we are truly deceiving ourself. There are people with all the money they need and they lead, or have lead, miserable lives. Read up about what life was like for Elvis Presley. His money and fame did him in. Consider some of the people who have won big at the lottery but did not have their priorities straight and spent it all.
Instead of believing that, if only we had money we would be happy, or we would have more presage, take a step back and ask yourself what are you happy with today. Do you have a family you would give nothing for? Are you loved by a sweetheart that you love in return. Do you have good health so that you truly can enjoy life. If you have these things, you are truly rich.
All that money does is gives you options. Sure it will give you better vacations but if it takes working every minute of your life in order to gain that wealth of what value is it?
Success is not money or power. We have all been programmed to think so. True success comes at the end of your life and as you look back you can see how many lives you have touched. If many lives have been made better because of you, you are indeed successful.

Hi parukutty, I dont think that one can measure success with wealth. It is different to different people.there are some who consider wealth to be the yard stick of success. I feel that when a person is happy and at peace with himself , one can say that he has led a successful life...All the best and have a great weekend
