What is the best alien invasion movie

Ive been thinking about the different types of alien invasion movies and I dont think the genre has been used alot yet.
I can only think of Independance day and Signs and War of the worlds.
I personally would like to see more movies like this.
Does anybody have any more they want to share or discuss?

Some of the older alien films among the best. The original 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' is a very good alien movie, not so much the remake. Again, the original 'War of the Worlds' was good, i didn't really like the remake. Its too far from the original story. Maybe it's jsut because i love Jeff Wayne's musical so much.
Out of the modern ones, definatetly Independance Day. Will Smith is fantastic in it! I don't know if it can be classed as an alien invasion movie, but it defintely has aliens in it, Rocky Horror anyone?

Is it beyond my generation to watch those movies though?
Im in my mid 20's and im afraid special effects and cgi have rotted my brain and without these i dont feel its worth watching.
I may give them a try though.

There's a few alien invasion films that are well worth seeing. The 1953 War of the Worlds for a start (although the Tom Cruise one is also worth seeing, I think the '53 version still stands as the best). Both the 1950s and 1970s versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Earth Vs the Flying Saucers for the classic attack scenes on Washington. Signs is good, very suspensful. I didn't really like Independence Day much, since the ending didn't make any sense.

War of the Worlds...not the one with Tom Cruise but the one from 1953 with Gene Barry. I watched this movie as a kid and I have it on DVD. Even today there is something about those martian war machines that spooks me. It probably had the best special effects of any sci-fi movie of that time.

I used to watch the X-files series way back and got so hooked on it. Independence day is quite nice , the last alien movie I've watched is ...I forgot the title I only remember there's the project in front. Sorry ;)
