I don't know why do they need to ban the pages? Does it happen in your country?

You have to remember one thing about Vietnam and other countries like it. Vietnam is a Communist country, and they way the governments of these countries keep control of their citizens is to cut off forms of media that would enlighten them to the way people in other parts of the world live. Other countries such as Russia, North Korea, China, and Pakistan have been doing this for years. It is the same reason that most muslim countries wont allow Bibles to be brought in by people who visit there...Their ability to keep control of the citizens they enslave depends on their ability to keep those citizens from becoming enlightened (by Facebook, other web pages, or the Bible) to the fact that there are better ways to live than the way of life their brainwashing governing policies...

That is what I meant...they brainwash the people in their countries so that they can retain their power...

In the country like that, the gorvernment and all the people who related to the gorvernment will have the best benefit if they control their citizens well. They don't do it for their citizens, they do it for them self.

I bet it's mainly for reducing the flow of information from vietnam to other parts of the world. they must be hiding something really really serious. Maybe... ^^

It makes me curious to know what the closest equivalent to FaceBook is in Vietnam.

I'm fortunate to be a Filipino. Philippines is a democratic country. Thanks to Ninoy and Cory Aquino. I don't see good reasons why Vietnam banned Facebook. I hope Vietnamese people would get to experience the same freedom that most people in the world do.

I did not hear about this, and I have no idea why they would do that. I think it is a shame, because I am sure the people in Vietnamn like it just as much as people elsewhere in the world. So too bad for them! In my country, the internet or Facebook is not checked or banned in any way.

The bad thing is that our gornvernment banned Facebook but they said that it was a technical problem and they are trying to fix it. But if you fake your IP adress or try to break the firewall, you can access Facebook easily! People in Vietnam can not access Facebook directly so far. And the worst thing is that they are going to ban the BBC Vietnamese! Everyone in this world could know that BBC is the most trusted and reliable news corporation! What the hell are they going to do??!!

unfortunately, facebook isn't banned in the philippines. haha. i really meant the "unfortunate" part. i think those online social stuff makes people miss the fun of having real human interaction. if people really wanted to get in touch, wouldn't it be better to go somewhere and share a conversation over a cup of coffee?

If Vietnam bans facebook what could be the reason for this? Maybe inappropriate content? I don't think banning facebook is really a good idea. It's the same with any other social site. There is no need to ban it really. If it's security purposes well just post wisely right?
