Do you read the responses first or you go directly to the response page?

In responding to a discussion, what was your practice. After reading the topic do you tend to first read the available responses or you immediately jump directly to the response page and fill in your answer. Me, I admit I sometimes read first some of the responses, for me to avoid redundancy especially if the topic is a problem and already been solved by the preceding responses. How about you, do you read the responses first or you answer immediately? I would be glad to hear from you. Have a great day! :)

I first respond and then check out the other responses once my response is added to the list. Most of the times mine will be the first response.

I normally respond and get it over with. I am very lazy to go and see who responded first. Old age, you know. TATA.

Hello Haroldks, I usually will read the discussion first and then the first responses on the first page, I skim through most of them. I don't read word for word but usually read enough of them to know what they had to say. I very rarely will go to another page to read more as some of them have 10 or more pages and it would take a couple hours to read them all. I really don't think it matters if I repeat something someone else said. No one reads all of the responses and if mine didn't come up on the first page I'm sure it would get read very seldom anyways so who would know if I repeated what everyone else said. lol

it is stated in the guidelines to read over the responses before we give our own response. but many members, i guess, and i am one that reads only few of them and go one responding. some members find it time consuming to read them all and some say they don't want to be influenced by the others, so they go directly on responding.

Many times, I just read the discussion and start replying to it. This becomes easy if the post is about my opinion. If the member has asked for a help or a solution, then I would read onto the earlier responses too, to know if someone else has already given a good one.

I agree with your method, I used to just put my response and then found six of us had answered the same question with the same answer!!

yes, reading the earlier responses can help us to avoid giving repetetive answer.. But instead you can join the conversation by commenting onto someone's post..

Hi Harold!. I usually response straight from my email because my mylot notification is on. I can see directly all discussion made by my friend and pick the one I capable to answer. So I usually response straightly from there without seeing others response first because my connection really slow and its will be more faster this way. I can see others response after I post mine.

It just depends. Sometimes I want to read the other responses first, sometimes I don't. If it's a myLot question, for example, I read the other responses first, so as not to waste my time repeating something. But if it's something asking for a personal experience, I usually write my response first and then read the other responses.

Generally, I will read some, if not all, of the responses first. It does happen that sometimes I don't read others' responses. However, generally, I will read them, as I enjoy reading what others have to say about a specific subject.

I usually read the responses before I answer. Sometimes if a discussion is confusing, the other responses make it more clear. Well at least I read the first 5 or 6, and skim through the rest if there are more. If I am really tired or if time is an issue I will just respond and hope I am not duplicating what someone else said.

When I have the time, I do read the comments made by other mylotters because that is our way to connect. Other than earning money, mylot is also a good way to meet new friends :)

Harold, I don't read the answers before I respond to a discussion. Reasons are many. to mention a few : When you see the number of replies, there is every chance you lose interest to respond to the discussion. Result, you simply switch over to the next discussion. Secondly, if you read before you respond, your originality is lost. Most of the times such a response will be a biased one only, taking sides to the positive responses. Of course, every one should respond positively to solve a problem, rather than aggravating the situation. But when you read the other responses, your response will be totally based on them. Human mind always decides on the resolved replies, dares no more to proceed. One man's meat is the other man's poison. Who knows, your response might be a better and positive one when compared to others. Good Luck.

I must admit that I read the discussion and then read one or two of the responses, especially if it is lengthy then I may read just one or tow of the responses. If the discussion is short I may read all of it. When I respond after not having read all the responses, I will however post that as many have already posted I too agree and then I will put my own valid opinion. I have been lucky not to be redundant but have found that some people do not read the any of the responses after the discussion because their answer appears as if it were the exact as others.

My first practice was repsoning first to the discussion without looking at other discussions. After later I found out that someone already answered or discussed or said what I have said and did a good job out of it. Now I tend to read all the discussion and try to fill the gap that others did not fill. While also reading discussion of others on the topic I learn alot of new things and I finds so interesting at mylot. It is also a trend now that I do not post discussion, but try on answer few thoughts on the posts of the others and reading answers of others.

I'm still new to Mylot, I do not have much experience about making the responses, maybe I would also like you, read some responses that have been there, so it does not happen the same response. I learn from your discussion about making the responses , thank you for giving

I go directly to the response page, I guess that means I don't pass "home" or collect "$200" (monopoly references there...)

Yeah, as far as I am concerned, I think I have read the topic before I have posted under the topic! For the respones on the page, I think I seldom read it, just for saving some more time online. But sometimes, I think I will try my best to read the responses one by one, ubeause the topic is the one that I am so interested and want to know the answer to the topic!

If I am reading a discussion lead-in that catches my imagination, I feel that a direct response is often the best approach. Whether I choose to read the responses first or not, one can choose to 'edit' or add a clarification later and responses within the discussion thread can be directed to the person that replied in addition to you sir. If I am reading about a topic of interest with the aim to learn, then I will surely read through the responses first and possibly comment if I can add value or care to express my appreciation or perhaps even a suggestion or criticism. As for the possibility of responding to a discussion that has already been 'solved', how many people starting discussions here are looking for timely and actionable responses without looking or investigating elsewhere at the same time? Best wishes, Eric

It depends. When I am unsure of the discussion starter means, I read the first 3 responses of other people so that I can fully understand what he is saying. If the discussion is clear to me at first read then I go directly to the response button to reply.:)

I often read what others say before responding myself. That takes up more of my time, but I enjoy it more. Seeing that I am just a noob here, do correct me if I am wrong, but in my allotted time here I've noticed that there are basically 3 types of members here. One, those that wanna help and earn at the same time. Two, those that wanna have help or answers and earn at the same time. Three, those that wanna earn, period. Often, we are between or both of the first and the second one, but I do hope that I am not of the third type I've mention. and often, not always, and I am not generalizing, I do encounter members that do not respond to the discussion at hand. Seems like they took one look at each discussion posted, respond and after reaching a qouta, logs out. Please, do correct me if I am wrong, and I do hope that I did not hurt anyone here. I repeat, I am not generalizing those above. Happy mylotting.
