I know quite a bit about it, because I find it the most appealing philosophy. It is not a religion, you do not have to believe in God or anything. It basically means that you have to aspire to doing good in whatever you do. So no gossip, no stealing, no killing etc. Most buddhists do not eat meat and are pacifists. They also believe in karma - sometimes carried on from our previous lives. They believe that in a previous life you may have been say a Nazi concentration camp guard and although you are not personally responsible for that now, you have chosen voluntarily to come back to earth to learn lessons so thatyou will not do that again. Some of their concepts are strange to our western minds but very interesting. Some Buddhists believe in God, some do not. In the States there are lots of buddhist communities and yoga centres, that would teach you meditation and yoga. In the city in which I live (UK) there is a Friends of the Western Buddhist order who have introduction courses etc. They will NEVER press you to join up otherwise they are not real buddhists. For someone like me, who does not like other people telling me what to do or what to believe in, they are ideal. I try and live according to some of their principles and I think if everyone did, whether or not you believe in reincarnation etc. the world would be a more peaceful and harmonious and thoughtful place. Feel free to get back to me with more questions on this, if you have the heart for it.
