My brother just broke a mirror a couple of hours ago. In our country (Italy) and, as far as I know, in other countries as well, it is said that a broken mirror will bring you seven years of misfortune and disgrace. The superstition comes from China, because in their tradition mirrors, glass and everything that reflects images have the power of capture the spirit of the body reflected. If you break it, the part of your spirit that is captured will fly away causing the loss of something in you.
Are you superstitious? Breaking a mirror is a cause of misfortune in your country? Which remedies do you know?
I am Pagan, and we use these remeds:
You could make a virgin girl pee on the broken mirror's pieces before moving or removing them in the seven days after the misfact.
Or, you should put all the pieces in a basin full of water with a transparent precious stone (like diamond, quartz or aquamarine) for seven days. At the end of the week, you should throw away the mirror's pieces and the water far away from home and purify your stone.

In my country too (Malaysia), it seems that broken mirror brings seven years of misfortune. But it is just superstition. I myself broke one or two mirrors before, nothing bad has happened to me. No worries. Just wrapped the broken pieces in a thick paper before throwing them in the bin so that no one gets hurt. That's all. Have a nice day!!

It's curious how a single chinese "superstition" or tradition (whatever you prefer to call it) was spread all over the world! :)

I never knew the superstotion originates from China...but anyway, I have never thought about finding a remedy for it as I dodn't think there was such a remedy...true, there is a bit of bad luck during the 7 years, but it is what yo do and act that matters also, and during the time it is also better to be as careful and cautious as possible. Is Pagan related to witchcraft, I found it very interesting what you mentioned in your remedy in your question...

True, the misfortune and the bad luck also depend on the behavior you have during those seven years: rather than saying it will bring you bad luck, I'd say it will be easier for bad things happen to you.
And yes, Paganism has almost everything to do with witchcraft - but not the kind of witchcraft movies and books taught us to believe. There's no moving wands while saying nonsensical things in this, it's all about the power of belief. Instead of praying for good luck, we bring with us sacred objects that have the power to take all the bad influences and negativity and we purify them from time to time so they can work well again. If you strongly believe it works, it will.
Our rituals aren't in church or such, we celebrate to be more in contact with the nature and its powers, since our Gods are Mother Earth, the Sun, the Moon, they're our Fathers and Mothers. Paganism is a very ancient religion indeed, and there are a lot of them also today, they just... hide, I think.

I don't believe in superstitions sometimes. Misfortunes and disgrace can be handled through prayer and handwork, and a broken mirror has nothing to do with them. Everyday, there's lot of mirror being broken and do you think all of them will suffer misfortune? Putting broken pieces in basin may lead to accident, so that's the disgrace in it. Better dispose them as early as possible to avoid greater demise.

What you call superstition is called prayer in many cultures.
For Pagans and Wiccan, is a normal thing to dispose of the broken mirror in such ways, because is a kind of prayer to make misfortune go away and be sure that a sacred object has the end that it deserves.
Don't be so closed minded to other cultures, Paganism is one of the most ancient religion in the world.
