Blogging a Blogger Guy Story

There is this "blogger guy" character that I want to send into a quest for riches on the internet. Basically, it follows the plot of stories like Don Quixote and Jason and the Argonauts where the hero goes into a journey to find some ultimate prize. Naturally, as the plot of quest story goes, "blogger guy" will be off roaming around in cyberspace and at the same time, he will live his real-world existence at the same time. The starting point of the story is Cebu City, Philippines. (I don't want to make it easy or too exciting for the hero by making him live in New York although that could be both interesting and challenging.) Anyway, I want something familiar first. I can change the setting later if the story so demands. What would be a nice opening adventure or episode on the web? I need something ordinary that can be somehow twisted to be exciting or "Hey! That's interesting. I didn't know that." kind of writing. What interesting anecdotes can you share that I can adapt for my story?
