Making extra money or being with family and friends

Hello. Some people are ready to work after working time, only to make some extra income. Others decide, for example, to drive a truck or being on a ship for a very long period of time (6 months, an year, 2years) with the purpose of making much money (much more than a normal job). My question dear mylotters is, which options would you choose if you had to choose? Being near your family and friends and having enough time spending with them simultaneously working at a normal job. Or if you had the chance to go somewhere and make a big amount of money at the expense of missing family and friends. Which one would you choose? Would you be enough strong for providing your family a decent life or for you the biggest gift is being with them and helping when is needed?
