There has been a lot said about the new ball which has been used in this world cup. I think that the majority of players do not like it. Why do they need to have a new ball? I think that it would be better to have a standard ball that the whole world plays with and gets used to and then there would be no excuses for anyone.

A new World Cup final tournament means also a new ball. And this is happening also from merchandising reasons, because FIFA has a contract with Adidas and they supply for each Final tournament a new ball witch is the icon of that tournament. It's simple.

It is a tradition. Every world cup FIFA and Adidas unveil a new ball which is used for the tournament. They give the qualified teams some advance time to practice with the balls. Countries like Germany which give more weightage to country over club, introduce these balls into the league matches as and when it is available. The benefit of that approach is there for everyone to see!!
Cheers!
