I am really into fries. When I went to college, I stayed in a dormitory because our house is 3 hours away from our school. Since I am away from my parents, I have all the time to go downtown and stay at different fastfoods twice or thrice a week. My mother doesn't really want us to eat in fastfoods.
Now that I don't go to school and my mom sees what I eat, I lessen the times I eat in fastfoods, specially french fries.. Last last month, my mom got a text message about world health organization. She learned that one 1 piece of fries is equivalent to 1 pack of cigarettes. Now, my mom won't allow me eating french fries and it has been two months. I miss is, super duper ultra mega miss it! hehehe
You guys, are you into french fries? are you still eating fries though they say it's one of the not-good-for-your-health type of foods?

Yes, same here! I really like french fries. There was a time when I eat french fries everyday! hahaha. lols. But now, it has been a month. Fries is actually one of the 10 foods that are recommended not to be eaten. ehhe. :D But we can cook our own fries, I don't think it's unhealthy. :)

love french fries although they are of course not the healthiest thing for you to eat. They are certainly hard not to like and to eat whenever you can

Pangahaz,
your name's funny. I suppose you're a Filipino. heheh. lols. Anyways, yeah right, high in cholesterol. So having it so often isn't really good to our health. I did get the point of my mother though I can't deny that I really miss fries. hehe. :)

Hi there, I think your mother is very health conscious and she loves you that's why she doesn't allow you to eat more french fries. You can buy packed uncooked fries and cook at home. It is very easily available in the market. It is not harmful. All you need to do is in the fry pan pour oil and fry it until it is brown and sprinkle your favorite like salt, black pepper and chilly on it and enjoy your french fries.

hi Attente I am a senior citizen but I will be darned if I am going
to give up french fries for any one. so its mot as healthy as head lettuce but neither does it taste as tasteless as french fries either and when I get my french fries I will get a nice fat juicy hamburger to go with them so that out to bring out a lot of people telling us just how bad they are for us.

oh my mom used to make the best fries as she had a deep fryer and they always came out really crispy and golden brown, I think she used olive oil as it smoked some. but maybe they could be healthy too, that would be so good.

Yes, that's it! olive oil is the answer! or maybe canola oil! We don't use it here in our home but some mylotters say that they are healthy to use! Now, so sure my mother would really allow me to cook fries using canola or olive oil! I think having fries once in a while won't kill me, specially if cooked in the mentioned oils. hehe. :)

But now I know what i would have to do hatley. I'll cook my own fries tomorrow! a mylotter actually suggested that to me. I don't think my mom would find it unhealthy! weeee! so excited! :D

that's too bad for you.but maybe your mom is just afraid for your health sake. well, try to follow her especially you're still living with her. You are bound to follow her rules at her own house.Just do what you want when you're independent. But I'm sure your mom's reason is for your own sake

Yes, I agree with you. And I am really following her, not because I am still staying in her house but because she's my mother and she just wants the best for my health. Maybe I can ask her to have fries once in a while, I don't think that will kill me. hehe. :)

Hi attente: Sometimes it's a little bit annoying to take these type of advices but if we understand that when your family told you these things, it's because they love you and simply want the best for you, you understand that there are good reasons to follow these advices. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

Home made french fries are much better than the ones you get at other places which are covered in oil. Instead of frying them, you can grill them. That would make them much healthier and they taste just as delicious. Frying french fries in olive oil is also a healthy option.

I'm sorry about that.. maybe you can coax your mom to allow you to eat once in awhile. I eat fast food stuffs sometimes only as too much may not be too good for me. Once in awhile should be alright, I think. I love fries too.. especially the ones from Mc'D and Burger King..

Really, no Burger King there? How about Long John Silver?? Jollibee as in those small-like bean curds drinks and whatnot? If that's the same, I love that one.. the name is rather similar. Ever heard of healthy fries, home-made style? I've heard of it, but don't know what are the ingredients though. Junk food, not so junk anymore, ha..

Hi zed! Yes, we don't have Burger King here as well as Long John Silver. tsk tsk tsk. But it's okay. Well I don't think we have the same Jollibee.. I think it's a local business, not sure though. It's like Mcdonalds. I just heard zed from other mylotters that fries is one of the top ten carcinogenic foods, 5th or 7th.. I've deciced to lessen my intake of fries. But of course I won't stop eating fries, I'll still have them once in a while. hehehe. About the healthy fries, I think the ingredients are the same. Only that you have cook them in oven, not deep frying. Or if deep fried, you have to use canola oil. hehe. be blessed zed! :)

Hi, attente. I believe that fries are not all that unhealthy. You can still bake fries in the oven. Bake it on a nonstick pan. Don't coat it with any grease or cooking spray. I eat them this way. They are delicious and healthy too. I stay away from fries that are fried into grease, oil and lard. You can also use low sodium ketchup too, if you are overly concerned about the salt intake in the ketchup.

Hey alvaro! Exactly! That's what I'm thinking actually! They just want the best for me for they love me so much. In return, I love them so I really have to obey them. It may be hard to resist the temptation of my cravings, but then I can manage. Well, I can ask my mom to have fries once in a while, maybe she'll allow me. It won't kill me at all. thanks for your reply! :)

Hi cream: I think you are right. My mom alys told us that it's better to cook your own food instead of eating in a fast food restaurant. We just have to be organized to prepare the meal. You know, if you have to prepare a hamburguer and some french fries you have to go to the supermarket and buy things and then you have to prepare them but the result would be good. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

Anything in excess is bad. I also love eating fries. I'm not really sure if that information your Mom got was accurate. I've heard that eating too much fries specially in fast food restaurants is unhealthy. However, as far as I know the main reason for that is because they use the same oil to cook the fires over and over. It means they are recycling the oil they are using to fry the potatoes. That's what I know.

Hi Lady slipper: I agree with you. The problem is that people don't eat rationally. I think that you can eat all the things you want (well almost everything) if you have a healthy habitude. A guilty pleasure like this could make part of a diet. Eating sometimes junk food make life less boring I think. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

hi attente.......your mom is not your enemy she is just taking care of her child.....french fries is been made up of potatoes.....if u eat more french fries you will get more carbohydrates in your stomach....and carbohydrates lead to fat under your skin.....so the fat starts to get stuck under your skin and you will get obesity in few days.....this is the main problem of french fries.....if you wont give attention towards your heath these days then you will lie in bed in your fourties or may be fifties ...i am also of your age but i avoid fast food and i just exercise daily.....i am not too muscular or healthy but i am fit ....i dont get sick easily.....i know you will this as a lecture but think what you want to....i am just trying my best to convince you
happy mylotting

Hey abj! thanks for the advice! Well I think you're really right! That's what my mom says, I might be happy with my life now, eating everything i crave. But eventually will suffer when I get old, forties or fifties. And she would then names people who are now suffering because they abuse their health when they are still young. of course, I don't want to be like them. I want to grow old as I want to see my grandchildren growing.. hehe. too futuristic. well.. thank you very much abj! it really takes an effort and an attitude to have a good and healthy life! be blessed! :)

Not the healthiest of foods, but none at all seems a tad harsh. After all, there is something in most of what we eat that is, if not harmful, not good for us.
On that basis you would never leave the front door, but who knows- the house could collapse?
I hope that you manage to reach some accommodation with your mum.

Nice one memnon! Well I just had fries this lunch. weeee! I cooked my own fries, I don't think my mom would find it as unhealthy as those in fast foods and ofcourse having such foods once in a while won't kill me right? Just like you said, there is something in most of what we eat, so have limits. :)

Memnon, I just learned from other mylotters that fries is really unhealthy. It's one of the top 10 major causes of cancers, either 5th or 7th.. With that, I've decided to avoid fries.. But of course I won't stop eating fries. I'll still have it once in awhile. ehhe. be blessed! :)

That's a good compromise; specially if they are oven fries as you are keeping the oil content down.
By doing this you are also proving to your mum that you are doing your best to find the healthiest available option.
I hope that she meets you part way.

Although the french fries, hamburgers etc. are regarded as junk food, but I think it's OK to eat it occasionally. Besides, these food tastes well. If you don't eat it so often, it's alright. We shall try different food and it will be good for our health. Besides the health, we shall also consider the taste. Try to imagine there is no chocolate, ice-cream, french fries etc. The life will be meaningless if we only eat "healthy" food.
I love China

I couldn't agree more! Life would be so BORING without those foods! and Having junk foods once in a while won't kill us for sure! So maybe having fries once or twice a month will do.. I'll try to convince my mother, not only veggies and fruits. ugh! But I love them though! heheh. :D be blessed youless! :)

I still eat once in a while, if I'm succumbing to the temptation. LOL. Cause I'm on diet, and of course the first thing that I cut off in my diet is fast food, they are just so unhealthy, but they taste so freaking good. I have no idea why oily and unhealthy foods can make you crave and just give in, even if you know that in time it can literally kill you.

Hi,
I am not a french fries lover, but I do eat french fries once a while.
Normally, I will buy Macdonalds french fries and I don't eat them when
they are hot. Too heaty.
I also not allow my son to take too much french fries.Too heaty for him and he
easily get sore throat after consuming those fried food.
Normally, my husband will buy Macdonalds french fries during their
promotion time.Or else, we avoid fast food.

Hi attente
If we listened to all the "not good for you" information, there wouldn't be much left to eat. At one point, "they (whover "they" are) said we should not eat hamburgers cooked on a grill, eggs ("they" have since changed their minds), ANY fast foods, and lots of other stuff I can't think of right now.
Anything in excess is not good, but I eat what I want. I can't see a problem with french fries. Yes, they are deep fried..but the type of oil used is important.
By the way, I love my fries with cheese...yummy

Fries is one of the 5 major causes of cancers.. And one of the mylotters told me that according to a study, fries contain byzoperene, that causes cancer. So I think I have to lessen the intake of fries. But since I am really into fries, maybe I can eat once in a while. hehe. be blessed! :)
