What does it take to love your job?

Ever since I started out in this job 9 months ago, I've been struggling to be dedicated to it and eventually love it. But until now it still hasn't worked out. I want to treasure and appreciate it because God gave it to me but I really can't be dedicated in doing this work. I'm really confused. Everyday, I ask him to give me signs or valid reasons for me to resign from this job but until now there's still nothing. I guess sometimes things don't go your way. And I pray that God will give me the courage and strength to accept that.

Hi. Thanks for the response.
It's a good thing that you love your job. Yeah, you're right. I was just forced to accept this job because I had no other choice then. Somehow, I enjoy the company of my colleagues also, and my boss is quite okay. But it's really the job itself that I don't like. Every day that I'm in the office, it makes me feel depressed, frustrated and stagnant. I don't know but it really makes me feel that way. I wish that one day, I'll have a job wherein I'll always get excited to wake up every morning and never mind being tired at the end of the day simply because I love it. And a job that would make a big difference in my life.

There is a job out there for everyone to love. If you can't find a job working for someone else, start one yourself. I started the job of keeping bees and selling honey over 30 years ago. I'm way past retirement age but I'm still loving that job. Yes, I get stung occasionally, but it only hurts for a moment, and I just keep Right on doing what I'm doing, and loving those bees.

Awww, I love the fact you care so much about your bees. Your job is more important than ever because certain bees are endangered now aren't they? There was a "push" over here for residents to keep bees. I've no idea if that has been successful but at least people talk about bees now, which is very important in itself.
I'm glad you love your job.

You know sometimes it is also up to you to find happiness in your job. In my previous work, I applied for the job of an HR assistant, but was later on laterally transferred to another position as Sales Admin. Assistant by the management for reasons I was not in a position to question then -- I was only 6 months in that position when I was transferred. Of course, it did not make me happy, but I tried to find something exciting about my work. I tried to avoid numbers that was why I've been doing mostly HR tasks since I first got employed, yet here I was facing a job that had to do with numbers and reports that were mostly about numbers. Whoa! What was I to do?
Well, I took it as a challenge and studied MS Excel. Since I did not have any formal computer training, I did this on my own. After learning Excel basics and doing the tasks for some time, I got bored again so I studied about Macros, Pivot Tables, Charts, and other similar stuff to improve my reports. I was doing well in my work since I was able to patiently do it for the past 8.5 years, however, I had to resign in earlier this year because there was a change in management and however I tried, the relationship between me and my new boss just couldn't work out. But that's another story, which is much different from yours.
Suffice it to say that I loved my job when I gave it up. I was enjoying it immensely since I was already devising ways to make my reports more accurate and properly formatted but then my former boss had to emigrate to another country and my new boss and I just couldn't see things eye to eye.
Loving one's job takes time, it grows on you and you grow on it. Nine months is a relatively short time. Take time to reflect so you can determine what it is that you really like doing and pursue that dream. Since I see that you are a prayerful person, I do not think there will be any problem with regards to your practice of introspection. You're right, sometimes things do not go your way, but it takes prayer and trust so you'll know the best direction to take.
Warmest regards to you friend.

Hi. I agree with you that loving one's job really takes time. My job is not my element in the first place. You see, I've been dreading this profession ever since because of my experience during internship. I hated news writing. What I would want to do is to work in a TV production. But I also would like to explore other jobs and take risks. But as of the moment, financial constraints hinder me from doing that, I want to go to other places or go back to where I finished college so that I can look for other/better jobs and apply. Guess I can't do anything about it and what I'm just doing now is let out everything I feel about my career. And of course ask God for guidance and signs all the time. But despite all the prayers, I still can't help but feel depressed and frustrated about my situation. Now I'm so confused on what to do.
Thanks for the response.

Maybe a realization of what's out there might help you appreciate your job.
When I started out on my current job, it was a Friday. After the day was over, I realized that I wouldn't like this job. So, the following Monday, I started sending out my resumes again to look for a better one. I went on a lot of interviews, and I even took a 6-week vacation from this job to work at another job. Still I couldn't find enough reason to quit. So, I'm still here. Running on my 5th year.

In order for you to stay happy with your job, you should always think about the purpose why you are even working there. Why did you apply? What is making you stay and not just go on AWOL? Who are the people/friends you are leaving behind if you leave?

If you've been this long and feel this way I can assume it's not your type of job right?
I hate when that happens too, most of the time I can hate it with all my heart. The only way I remember I was happy in a job that I didn't choose was concentrating in all good things.
Do you believe in The Secret? Well I do and had a lot of proofs for more than 10 years, the movie just helped me to put all together. The more I tried to see the good things in my work, the more it was great.
I concentrated on:
The people I liked - it was amazing that at one point more and more nice people, my type of people started to work there.
When I wasn't trying to concentrate in cool people I was concentrating in my self improvemente, my goals and stuff like that, I don't know if it is because I concentrated the energy in my, my boss started to give me oportunities out of nowhere, oportunities that no one ever had.
The bad people were quitting the job as I didn't care for them anymore.
Everytime something bad happened I wasn't nearby, it was in another section, another officer, but like a miracle I was never there.

I've been always trying to see the positive side of this job. But until now, the negative side of it still overpowers. Honestly, I can't be thankful for the salary that I receive every month because I know that I don't have the dedication and commitment to the job and that I'm not working hard for it. As much as possible, I'd want to be compensated for every drop of sweat and tear that I make for my job.
I've been attempting to quit my job but I'd always fail. I really wonder what God wants me to do.

Yes,i love and like my job a lot.At present i am working as a network engineer in a software firm and i enjoy this job a lot.I never think of quitting this job, because once we quit the job,it is very difficult get a new job in the current recession time.If i get any free time in between my job,i like to spend it on mylot and other money making sites. Now a days it is not so easy to get a job according to our taste or choice. So before quitting the job we have to think twice.

I am a firm believer that there is a job out there for everyone, that they love. I unfortunatly don't love my job, despite being quite interesting. On the upside I know what I want to do and I'm working towards that goal.
My dad always says you should work to live, not live to work. When it get's me down, I just remind myself that it pays for our two weeks in the sun, and let's my husband go home for xmas (he's american and I'm english).
There is always a silver lining. You might just have to look a little harder for it.

I takes attitude to love your job. I mean for me, you have to decide for yourself that you'd love it even if let's say that you dont. Considering everything around you, working environment, nature of your job, good boss, and all that. Let's say that everything is okay with this, then I think you have all the reasons to love your job.
