Internet: Virtual World, Why?

I am wondering why internet is called virtual world. I always use internet at the school and in the mall but I can't figure why internet is called the virtual world?

Maybe because it is another world... and the critcs said is not real...

because internet means all out of the world people are connected together here so then why not we call this as virtual world.virtual means like that or mirrored in the same manner the world is connected together in the internet.By this we can do so many not only chat live chat with video.

It's because it's like a second world that's not the real world, and people like making up fancy names for stuff.

Through internet we can get many things like shopping,seeing places,chatting which doesnt need much human effort.we are doing all things by sitting in front of the system without reaching the place of work.so it is called virtual world..
