I wonder if any of you have done underwater photography or not but having tried it a few times during my holiday trips to Cairns, Tioman, Mauritius and Maldives it is quite a daunting task with photos that just cannot be on par with these famous underwater photographers like Brian Skerry who is a real professional photographer for the National Geographic whose works have been featured regularly on this reputable magazine. I must admit that I have enjoyed a lot of his works and the one with the sharks is one which really have my admiration, that I just have to share it with all of you here. His works is really one where it can even send chills down your spine, where he can actually take picture perfect shots with these ruthless man eaters without even flinching. Hope you will enjoy and share some of your thoughts here. I would love to try it someday. While I know you can get those water proof bags to hold your camera in, I just don't trust them. Unfortunately around there, the water is not very nice. I probably would have to go somewhere like Florida or Mexico where the water is beautiful and there is lots of interesting fish. I don't think I want to take pictures of sharks that's for sure. http://cheapdslrprofessional.blogspot.com/

BLD367, You can also consider the Caribbeans, Maldives, Mauritius, Thailand (Koh Samui/Phuket), Indonesia (Bali) or Australia (Great Barrier Reef, Cairns) for beautiful diving spots and underwater photography. Taking pictures with sharks without a cage is definitely out for me as well, for I do not think I would be able to, without becoming their meal first.

o0jopak0o, We really need high quality underwater photography equipments and accessories to achieve these photos. Not forgetting, good skills in photography and swimming. Lest you are really interested it would not be wise to buy all these equipments and/or take scuba diving lessons as well.

well if your really interested in underwater photography then why not, but for the average user out there i dont think they need to buy equipments that is worth more or same then their camera.

I haven't personally tried underwater photography but i can tell that it would be a fascinating field. I simply do not have the gear to do that yet, but perhaps when I'm already in a comfortable place with my photography, this is something I would love to venture in to.

verabear, I can assure you that it is very much different than taking photos on land. There are just so many factors to address and take care of before one can produce these quality photos.

I could imagine how different it could be! One needs the right gear too, but Photojojo has cheap reusable underwater cameras that would be great to start practicing with. :)

I've never had the opportunity to do any kind of underwater photography, but it is something that I'd be very interested in trying out. You see, I've considered myself to be an amateur photographer since my son was born in 2006. One of my missions in life was to be able to take a decent shot of a fireworks display and I was finally able to achieve that this year. So, I need to find something new that would challenge me and I think it would be a lot of fun to do underwater photography. The problem with it is that the equipment is prohibitively expensive.

dorannmwin, I think you will also need to be proficient in scuba diving to do this form of photography. Photography is an expensive hobby and underwater photography is even more expensive. So, unless you are really interested there's no point buying all those expensive equipments and accessories.
