Does a wordpress blog allow ads?

Hey I am new to the world of blogging.I would like to know that if start an ordinary blog at wordpress,is it possible for me to place ads there just like blogger?Or do I have to buy a domain or use the professional service provided by wordpress in order to earn revenue from a blog?

yes, if you download wordpress.org and install it on your domain, absolutely you could make money online, but if you're using wordpress.com you only posting (but isn't bad, you can still post about your affiliate)
