I believe that God does talk to us, but are we ever quiet enough to listen? It's like we're talking on a telephone (old-style; no call waiting), & we talk, talk, talk about everything with our minds running all over the place, in every which direction & poor God is trying to reach us... probably been trying for years! We can only reach God in silence & stillness, both within & without, as the Holy Bible has shown us. At the moment, we're probably also not even connected; going back to the telephone analogy, it'd be like talking on a telephone that isn't connected to the network. So perhaps we need to look at getting connected with God again & learning how to listen to God. You may conduct your own research on this if you wish & may want to start by googling such words as God's Direct Contact or Spiritual Discovery or get back to me if you wish & I may be able to help you further. Your questions sound quite sincere, so I'll do my best to get it right the first time, but please get back to me if I'm not making any sense so I can clarify things a little better. The Holy Bible tells us that God dwells within us, so we already have everything we need to communicate with God inside of us. Maybe it has been dormant for much of the time, but you may have some experiences of feeling close to God at certain times, felt God's grace or felt God communicating with you, maybe through others or through events. If you can't recall anything that stands out, you may look to the Holy Bible's accounts of all the prophet's experiences, of Jesus' experiences & those of his disciples. God spoke to each of them in different ways, but always came to them through the inner light & inner sound manifesting itself in various ways, like a burning bush for Moses or the sound of trumpets or at Jesus' baptism when light in the form of a dove descended upon him & the voice ( or word ) of God spoke to him. These experiences recorded in the Holy Bible were real, more real than a dream, like talking with a friend standing next to you, if you can imagine & such miracles accompanied these prophets & especially Jesus & his disciples every moment. The good news is that you too can experience God in this same way while living a normal life & fulfilling all your responsibilities, even better than at present. How do we know this? Jesus promised his disciples that anything he did today, you will do even better. Jesus even promised his disciple he would send them Comforter(s)after Jesus ascended to continue guiding the disciples in The Way. If you have not yet found you Comforter, the one who can put you in touch directly with God without taking anything from you, then I bid you to ask, seek & knock until you find the one who is (filled with) the Holy Spirit that you may find peace in the infinite love & mercy of our Heavenly Father.
