Does it really matter what kind of toothpaste that we use?

I was in the bathroom about to brush my teeth. And the bathroom door was open. My mother-in-law just so happened to walk into the bathroom. And she saw my toothpaste. She then told me, Well, I use this toothpaste. And she held up her Colgate toothpaste for me to see. She said it in a very sassy and sarcastic way. She actually made a big deal out of what kind of toothpaste that she uses. She thought that the toothpaste I use, was worthless. Like, as if my toothpaste, was not good enough. I think that I had Ultrabrite toothpaste at that time. Toothpaste is toothpaste. There are many brands and flavors. Is Colgate toothpaste better than any other toothpaste out there on the market? What toothpaste I use, is my personal preference. I don't have to use Colgate. My mother-in-law seems to feel that she is so much better than me, since she uses Colgate toothpaste. I think not. A certain toothpaste does not make someone better than another person. It never will. I hope that my mother-in-law will understand this someday.

Yes my friend. You are right. A toothpaste cannot change a personality. But a personality can change a toothpaste. What ever toothpaste you are using is right for you because you like using it. So continue using it till the time you like it. Don't bother about what others tell you. You are not them. You are you. And always do what you like. That is the sign of being yourself. So use the toothpaste that you like. Also let me tell you that your tooth's strength doesn't only depend on the tooth paste but also on what you eat. Eating things that contain more of calcium and minerals can make your teeth stronger from inside. So focus on eating well for your teeth. take care. have a nice day.

Toothpaste is a matter of preference. There are some brands that i like better than the rest. I used to just be a Crest kid. Now Arm and hammer is my choice. Toothpaste i toothpsaste, but we have to choose the oral care that we are happiest with to gain the greatest benefits for our teeth.

hi cream with your mother-in-law you sure do not need an enemy;
why do you let her push your button? I would tell mil that my
toothpaste preference is my own business and none of hers.do
talk back to her and do not let her think she has to make you
do things her way at all.WE all have our own preferences when it
comes to things like toothpaste, em I hate that stinging burning
feeling that most mint flavored tooth pastes have.Yet a lot of
people love that. So toothpaste does not make us good or bad. that's
really silly of her.

I really don't think it makes that big of a difference what toothpaste we use. I have used soda before for the same affect as the expensive stuff. Colgate has been out here a long time. Let people think as they will. It is their Karma that will come down on them. Sadly it is so.

It's not right to feel superior to someone just because you think your toothpaste is better, but I think the brand of toothpaste does matter. There are some brands that dentists recommend more than others. I think it has to do with the content of toothpastes. Some are just better for the teeth than others.

There are many brands out there and Colgate is a dentist recommended one. I used to use other brands until a few years ago. I switched to Colgate based on dentists recommendation. So may be your MIL wants you to use the best to avoid too many dental problems.

You are right, toothpaste is toothpaste regardless of the brand name, unless you are using one without fluoride which I feel is better. Here is a little info on the dangers of fluoride: http://douglassreport.com/reports-2010/x600h6ab-fluoride/x600h6ab-home/?gclid=CPmEisOq1aICFciA5QodOlL9xg
I haven't used fluoride toothpaste for a few years now and I have no more cavities than I did before..

I was a dental assistant for many years. Dentists have always said that a toothpaste is a good one if there is fluoride in it. Other than that, it is just a matter of personal preference. However, if there is an added ingredient for tartar control or gingivitis, some people can have a sensitivity to it. The types that claim to contain "peroxide and baking soda" or whiteners, can actually cause some ppl's gums to dry out or cause sensitivity.
So basically, it's personal preference as long as it contains fluoride. And then it's "whatever works best for you".
As for me, I buy what's on sale!!

Hi cream97! I am not really a toothpaste brand fan but I usually use either colgate or crest. I tried those cheap ones but it's the taste that I don't really like. That's why I stick to colgate or crest because that's the toothpaste that I got used to since I was young.

Over here we have toothpastes made by the same manufacturer but it has different names such as Colgate, Aquafresh, whatever. I would think Colgate is the market leader but it's no better than other toothpastes so yes, you are right, your MIL shouldn't be sarcastic like that. Your toothpaste is probably made on the same premises as Colgate anyway.

As far as I know, toothpaste is toothpaste. I mean, I am not a toothpaste tester (but who is), but it shouldn't matter. There is also the possibility that she wants to feel like her opinion is important to you, but she is not communicating it correctly. Don't let it get to you.
