I left on Friday afternoon and before I left I made sure my cat had enough food and water and an extra litter box b/c I knew I was going to be gone for 4 days maybe 5. I called my friend and she said she would try to check up on my cat while I was gone but it wasn't a for sure thing... long story short I came home today on Monday afternoon and when I came in the house I called for my cat and all I heard was her crying!
At first I thought it was a cat outside but then as I walked closer to the cry it was my cat and she was locked in the closet! She ran out and I could tell she had no idea where to go she was crazy! I can't blame her though! She went to the bathroom in my closet stuff was everywhere where she had knocked everythingg down.
For the past hour she's been eating and drinking and barely calming down! I'm not sure what to do! I feel terrible and obviously my friend never came by to check on her. When I left she was watching me leave by the door but my husband came back in the house after I left to get something from the closet. So he must have accidently shut the door and didn't realize she was in there! I FEEL HORRIBLE and don't know what to do! Any advice?
BTW...there's no way I'm going to be leaving her here alone over night again!

Hi Lochoa
Im sure that you want to do something for her. At this point right now there isn't much you can do. She needs to know that she is not going back into that closet. As you walk thru the house call out to her to assure her that you are still there. I think after a few hours she will know that everything is back to normal.
I wish you the best and the kitty as well.
Keep smiling.

Thanks for your advice. I just was hoping she wouldn't have a heart attack b/c she's 10 years old! I've had her since she was a baby! I can tell she's not mad at me she's been puring and stuff but she's just been very scared. I don't even want to leave her side at all. Eventually I need to clean my closet too. I just feel horrible!

Just pet her and reassure her. She will be fine once she gets over the fright.
