What do people get upon spreading VIRUSES?

I don't know what happened to my messenger. It automatically sent a link to my friends list and one of my friends said it's a virus. This link was sent to me by a friend yesterday which I tried to open but it didn't. Then, just a while ago, the virus spread itself to my other friends. I wonder what do the creators get from creating viruses. Have you been a victim, too?

There are 2 reasons why people create viruses. 1. is for fun 2. is for profit. Some people do it just for fun. They create one, see what happens, laugh about it. I was in that stage when I was in college. I created a batch file that turns off the computer after 30 seconds. It has a warning that's like "You have been infected blah blah". No real damage, just shuts down your computer. It's not even a virus. more of a nuisance and a practical joke. Some people make viruses so they could earn. Some sell the anit-virus for their virus to anti-virus companies. Some work for antivirus companies as someone who makes viruses and develops solutions for these.

I did the same thing (pc-off.bat) back in college. XD It was only for "showing off" ... I guess that's one of the easiest "virus" to make. I also created a batch file that deletes PET32 virus (also for showing off) XD Batch files are widely used for making viruses years ago (along with autoruns).

what's pet32? haven't heard of that. could you share what it does? anyway, it's fun to play practical jokes on people, specially my those who are so gullible. I asked my brother to send the pc-off batch file to his classmate. Tehll his classmate that it's his homework, along with all the references. His friend eagerly opened the file, found that his pc was shutting down. Since there was a 30 sec. timer, he told my brother to wait a while because his computer will restart in 30s. So after 30s he turns on his pc again, goes online, sends an instant message to my brother then opens the file. This happened like 3 times. It was so funny! He didn't even realize that it was the file that was causing his pc to shut down. I took pity on the fellow and told my brother to tell his friend that we were playing a practical joke on him. The fun thing was he was such a sport that laughed too and played the trick on another classmate! haha

I have always thought that they get paid by people who make the anti viruses. That way they spread the virus and then someone shows and sells you the medicine for that. What you think

Some do this to test the security of a system and to find its loop holes. Others just want to get attention. Sometimes the one who are creating the virus are the one who are selling the anti-virus for them. They are doing this to earn.

Yes, I've been a victim before, but who doesn't? Well, there are rumors that anti-virus makers make a type of virus that only they can cure. they spread out the virus, then after the virus spreads out, they relese a cure for this virus. Old business trick, eh? For others, they make one because they know how. Maybe to show off or maybe they have a bigger agenda at hand. Some are accidental, remember the Love Bug virus which was spread through emails? Once you open it, then boom, out comes the virus. It was made by students as a school project and ends as a tech world dilemma. Nowadays, anyone can make one because it is taught at school, you can read books on how to make one and even surf the net on how to make one. I've done it too, but just for a practical joke for my friend.

The creators get nothing OR they steal your passwords OR log your keys, so that's what they get. Virus authors are evil anyways.

They were people hired by AV makers so antivirus will still be a need for a computer
