How much risk is there when using internet in a Wi-Fi Zone?

When you are using internet in a wi-fi zone, somebody can monitor your data packets and get your passwords. A good way to avoid this is to connect to internet with a Virtual Private Network encrypting your data : they will be useless if they are monitored. It' dangerous both for the host and the client. One technique that Hackers use is Wi-fi hopping. They move in different places so that their IP won't be recognized. It's also dangerous for the host if its security is weak. The college I attended is a wi-fi zone but it got hacked. The hacker changed his financial and academic records (yes, the hacker was a student there and NO,it's not me ^^). It all comes down to the security of the both party.

I don't really use wifi connection, unless really needed. Just to be on the safe side, because I've read some stuffs on the internet saying that there might be viruses looming and all that. Therefore, just to play safe, I think it's best not to use it, but that's just my opinion. I think to check emails, and surf normally should be alright. Try not to surf important documents using wifi, if you want to be on the safe side. That's what I think..

As far as i know there is no risk in running internet in the wifi zone,unless you commit any cyber crime.........

I'm presuming that you are referring to a 'hot spot'.Generally speaking you are fine, although it's perfectly possible for others to do some phishing. The host network can monitor your activity, I believe. One issue with downloads. If you download anything it is linked to the host's IP address, so they will be sued if you have downloaded illegal.

Hello friend, in my opinion there is no risk, as long as u have turn on your anti-virus and firewall it will be safe in Wi-Fi Zone. I like to be in Wi-Fi zone because the internet service always free but sometimes it is not so good because it is so slow.
