Sewing vs. ready-made clothing

With the economy in a slump these days, it's gotten harder to splurge on the pricier clothing lines. My question is simply this: In order to save money, would you consider learning how to sew, or would you rather go to a discount store and buy ready-made clothing?

It is one of the best hobbies for people interested in design for sure! You can get some of the stuff for cheap online, such as on Ebay, that has a huge fabric selection, you know!

I've watched my mom over the years...she's amazing. The sewing bug finally hit me several years ago, and I've steadily gotten better at it. At least I can finally cut out the pattern pieces and pin them to the material all by myself.

I've wanted to learn to make my own clothes for quite a while, but not as a money saving measure.
personally I think it can work out quite expensive, when you look at fabric costs and so on.
the cheaper option is definitely going somewhere like Primark. it's even cheaper than charity shops.

Yes, you are right. Some fabrics definitely are expensive, and you should also keep in mind that if you don't have all the stuff needed to get started, such as a sewing machine, needles, thread and so on, those things usually add up moneywise as well!

for me,I choose buying secondhand AND sewing.I am not a fan of retail items.I hate walking down the street and see someone wearing the same clothes as me.I buy branded new items which don't depend on the fashion season (white shirt, black shirt, jeans, etc) and will last me a long time.lucky for me I got items that are trendy from secondhand stores.I also want to learn to sew so I can make my own dress.

Yes, I do that anyway from time to time because I think it is fun and because I have good ideas. Money is not the problem, but you need to have a lot of time to be able to do this. I don't have enough time for a hobby like this at the moment, otherwise I would do it much more!

If I have the talent and the creativity to make clothes, I would do it. But of course it would only be used for special occasions. For everyday wear, I would really suggest that it is more reasonable to buy than to make your own. There are many fashionable stores to choose from and I think, prices would not also be a problem. But of course, cheap products are usually made of low-quality.

My mom is a genius when it comes to sewing. I've seen her make an entire dress in one day. I wish I had her talent. lol

It is a wise decision to indulge oneself to learn sewing and create fashionable clothing for daily use rather than to buy ready-made clothing. Not only this you can earn money by simply putting up a boutique business or a dress shop most preferably for women... it takes time but there is possibilities by doing so, try to be experimental. I have my grandmother she done this way, she wears stylish clothes made by her, she then got a lot of customers and it gives extra income.
