I went to a funeral and came home happy!!

I have been absent from mylot for a couple of days as I returned to my old home town for a funeral of a good old friend. This man had been a close friend for almost forty years, and although I had not been in touch for a while as we had moved from the area I was still very upset at his death. We had known each other through church, I met him when he was the Sunday school teacher who taught all my children, and from then we had spent many happy and sad times together. He and my husband were Church Wardens together as a very disturbing time in our church life, and we all fought together when the power's that be closed our church - it took them 20 years to do it though because we fought so hard!! And so yesterday I went to dear Sid's funeral, I was returning to the town where I had lived for over 50 years after moving 6 years ago. I met so many dear old friends including several of the vicars and curates who had been at our church over the forty years. I hugged and kissed do many people, recounted many happy (and not so happy) incidents from the past, and even laughed with the rest of the congregation as the vicar told us Sid had chose the hymn 'Fight The Good Fight' himself - so very apt for that wonderful man!! And so I came away from that funeral not feeling sad and tearful as I would have thought but happy and refreshed spiritually. I know for sure that Sid, one of the truest Christian men I've veer met, was looking down on us and letting us know that he was safe and happy and reunited with his loving wife. Thank you Sid!!
