What is in your garden? Flowers? Veggies?

Hello all!!!!! What kind of garden do you have this year? We usually plant a small veggie garden, but since the house is up for sale, we figured we might not be here to harvest it, so we let it go this year. We usually only plant tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, and zucchini. I just love zuccini bread. Now flowers, we have several: black eyed susans, cotton candy lilies, columbine, butterfly plants, azalias, yucca plants, day lilies, ribbon grass, some impatiens, and several hostas. Our back yard is shady, except in the morning, so we have to be careful what we put in. So...what's in your garden?

Like you, I have a variety of plants. I have mostly roses, also Black Eyed Susans, Violas, Columbine, Lavender, Some kind of Purple flower that I do not recall the name of, and a few other hardy flowers. I am waiting anxiously for my Carnations and Hollyhocks to sprout, I planted them a few weeks ago and see nothing yet. Also 3 different kinds of Daisy, the painted and 2 white ones that still have not sprouted from seed. Also in pots I have Dahlias and a daisy looking flower that is really big. I did try to plant a veggie garden, but the only thing that came up was my climbing spinach that is very slow growing, some tomatoes and a single cucumber plant. I bought a tomato plant because mine are just beginning to flower and I want some fruits very soon. I also purchased a greeen pepper plant since the ones I planted from seed did not come up. Maybe I did not water them enough. I will know better next year to give them a drink every day so perhaps I will have some veggies from seed. I also purchased some Asparagus and that will take a few years before I can harvest it to eat, but it is doing terrific. There was Parsley growing in my yard, so I am letting it grow. It is a good seasoning and I eat it raw as well.

I have mostly easy roses that require very little care. There are so many varieties of hybrid roses that are easy to care for. The Knockout Roses are super easy and very hardy. Fairy Pinks require little care, and Rosa Rogusa are very hardy as well. I found some tea roses at a fruit market that were on sale for a buck and have five of them. I will mulch them over winter as I will with some other rose varieties I have, but the Knockouts, Fairies and Rogusa do not need any pampering. Some others I bought on sale are doing rather well, and I have no idea what they are except they are very pretty. Coffee grounds and fertilizer is all I have done with the roses, and they are blooming machines. I am sorry you lost your rose! Maybe when you get into your new place you can plant some hardy varieties of roses. Happy Gardening!

so far our small house can only accommodate a small pocket garden of flowers, quite small but effective in our de-stressing activities..

We have flower and veggies, I have been redoing the flower gardens slowly so they dont consist of a lot right now. Bleeding Hearts, Iris, Lilies, Hostas and a huge trumpet bush is basically what we have now. The Vegey garden has, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and cantaloupe. This is our first year with a real garden and so far so good. I love gardening and weeding so it all works. Now if it would cool down so I would feel like being outside!

Hi ithink. Thanks for replying Sounds like you have a great start on that garden. I've never had much luck with cantalope or watermelon, and we don't have a lot of room for the vines. Make sure you get the hose out and water in the moring or evening during this heat.

there are some vegetables before but not anymore. We use to harvest them everyday to use as ingredients for food.

well gardening is realy a lot of work. but what we planted are low maintance that you need to just water them a day but of course their are plant destroying insects and such. well carrying a 50 gallon drum is another thing. i think im not that into gardening.

hello o0jopak0o...thanks for replying Gardens are a lot of work. We used to have a hugh garden, and we had to carry water for it in big 50 gallon drums. We did, however, have a lot of extra veggies to give our friends and neighbors.

Spring in my garden - I live in Chile. We have mild Winters and flowers bloom happily. This is a corner of my garden. The only tending they need is some water in Summer and some weeding.
Welcome to mylot! It´s Winter in my country but we don´t have snow where I live. So I´m preparing my garden to have beautiful flowers in Sring and I´m working making compost and learning about raised beds to make a small vegetable garden when the time comes. Meanwhile I plant some herbs in pots, separe my cacti, look for seedlings of flower plants I had last year. I plant flowers that are beautiful and easy to tend. I´ll give more of my time this year to my veggies. I´m posting a picture of a corner of my garden in Spring. Take care!
