Just Took-In a Momma and her 5 Kittens... AHHH!

A few days ago I took in a momma cat and her 5 kittens. Their owner was going to dump them and I said "NO WAY" and took them home. I found Momma and 2 of her kids homes... the other 3 are going to a NO KILL shelter tomorrow. At the moment (none of them have left yet) we have 7 cats, 2 dogs and a parrot. Our resident cat has been VERY angry about this whole thing (I've bribed him with extra canned food to try to keep him happy). This man was about to be evicted because of his cats... so he was between a rock and a hard place (I have never met him) but he was going to DUMP them?? WTH? I've only had them for 3 days and I've found safe places for them all. He had the mother and father cat in his apartment, neither one was neutered. Why was he so unprepared for the kittens? WHY DIDN'T HE GET THEM FIXED??? Have you ever run into this situation? What would you have done?

I would've done almost exactly what you did. I followed a cat home one day and the people said they were "tired" of her and, oh, she had 4 kittens. I took the lot... I found homes for all of them, except Rygel, the white eared cat in my avatar. I guess that's how I've ended up with a cat rescue, huh? http://tldcatrescue.blogspot.com/

They are all cuties :) It broke my heart yesterday when we went to the local no-kill to drop off the 3 "extra" boys... There are SO many animals there!!! The dogs were worse than the cats. Cat's do better keeping still in a cage than dogs do. They were SO pent-up and angry. They really need more attention. It's not the shelter's fault, they keep them safe... but the dogs are so aggravated that they look mean... It's going to be hard to find someone who will look past that to take them home. Lots of them were purebred dogs too! That means someone BOUGHT them! Now they're in a shelter! ARGH!!! It makes me wonder if their owners just didn't take the time to train them so they just "traded them in" for a new puppy... grrr! I know it's hard for people in this economy to have "luxuries" like pets... so it isn't really anyone's fault... But it is DEFINITELY not the animals fault! It really upsets me. Too bad you're so far away! I think I need a part-time job somewhere that I can get discounts on vet care as payment!! lol

Me too, I have now been listed by my vet as a rescue, not that it saves me more money than this clinic already saves me

We took in a stray cat's kitten about a month ago. He is such a cutie but is getting into everything. It is driving me crazy sometimes. Today he figured out how to jump from our kitchen table onto our kitchen counter. Now, nothing is safe. That is wonderful that you rescued the mommy cat and her kittens too. Glad you found homes as well. We have 2 cats now and one dog and I thought I was overwhelmed. I can't imagine having 7 cats, 2 dogs & a parrot at the same time!

Oreo sleeping - Here is a picture of our new kitten Oreo sleeping on the couch catching some zzzz's in the sun.
Oh, I forgot to include a photo our Oreo. Here is one below. Do you have any pictures of your new additions?

It's insane!!! But, not matter how hard it's been, I would do it again. They are such sweet little guys (the momma is nice too)... I couldn't imagine them being dumped by the road somewhere!! It makes me mad that this guy didn't neuter his cats. I called one no-kill shelter near me and they had 400 kittens there! They couldn't take any more! I have been calling every day and finally found a no-kill that would take the last three. I am so glad!! I clean that litter box at least 3 times a day!! :) (Plus, my cat is thinking about getting his own apartment, he's not impressed!) Thanks for commenting!!

I would take them too and try and get the rescue group that I volunteer for to take them in. And if they wouldn't take them in, I reckon I'd find homes for them myself. Sad reality, but some people just don't give a d*mn about animals...

Yesterday I had my two foster babies up at Animal Outreach at the spay and neuter clinic, and while I was waiting to pick them up, somebody came in with two kittens that had been dropped off on her property the day before. She had fed them outside because she was deathly allergic, and they were friendly but pretty beaten up.

It makes me SO angry!! (I mean the people not caring about pets). Pets are like children! I don't mean I want to diaper them and roll them around in a stroller, but that they are completely innocent... It makes me want to scream when I see all the evidence of how people see them as disposable possessions... not creatures with feelings and (I believe) a soul. GRR! Thanks for your comment! (despite the "grr" lol)

I think that it is good that you had taken the cat aswell as the kittens in and better still none of them will be dumped or destroyed.I have in the past taken in cats aswell as kittens just so that they were not destroyed.I think that there are alot of people that are evicted and they tend to leave the cats in the house and disapear not knowing or even care what happens to the animals.

That is horrible when people leave cats behind in an apartment!!! I hate people sometimes! I am glad that I took them in... but I would be lying if I said I'd be sad when they were in their new homes... This is a LOT of work!! Thanks for commenting! :)
