that irritating little string........why can't i ignore it?

we always don't seem to realize or take notice of a lot of small things which are happening to us and around us...but when we do take notice, it usually gets to be very annoying...very quickly. and stays that way unless we do something about it. but most of the times, we just don't do anything and continue to get irritated by it... weird thing about me is that if i leave it long enough, i start to talk to it
like that smudge of dirt on the wall behind the tv. or that dust bunny under the couch. or that fly buzzing around you. or that blinking light on the pc. or that flickering fluorescent light just outside your window. or that slightly bent fork in your kitchen drawer. or that missing pen cover.....the list goes on and on..
well, i was getting ready to go out this morning. i put on a nice shirt, my slacks, a nice pair of black shoes. i took a glance in the mirror and confirmed that i looked good
and then as i was leaving, i saw that darn string sticking out from the right cuff of my long sleeve shirt.
well, it wasn't a long piece of string that needed to be cut immediately. and my shirt wasn't in danger of being unraveled by it.. so i just decided to continue my day.......but i kept on looking at that piece of string sticking out from the right cuff of my long sleeve shirt . that was it. from then on i couldn't go 5 minutes without taking a look at that piece of string sticking out from the right cuff of my long sleeve shirt.. i was so conscious about that string that i quickly became quite irritated and agitated with it.....but i didn't do anything about it other than flick it around a bit.
and so that's how my day went....with that irritating little string sticking out from the right cuff of my long sleeve shirt..
and now i'm home. and this weekend, that shirt is going to be washed. and i know i still won't do anything about that piece of string sticking out from the right cuff of my long sleeve shirt.
i'm going to see it again the next time i wear that shirt. and i'm going to get irritated about it again...i think i just might start talking to it then..
is this one of those "Mario, it's only you" things? or am i not alone in this?
so what little thing has irritated you lately?

i do always wish that i already had a wife or something....but let's not get into that yet
how hard...? do you know how hard it would be to actually find that pair of scissors lying somewhere in the house, the effort to find it, to pick it up, to get that funny little piece of string sticking out from the right cuff of my long sleeve shirt, to awkwardly hold it in position to snip t off, the horror of thinking about what might happen if i accidentally snip the wrong thing, the energy i have to utilize for all of this to happen, the stress that i have to go through, the anguish that i put myself through...
it's easier to just let it be and let it annoy me... hahaa..

Hi mario, what a big list..... after reading your discussion i remembered one rhyme of kindergarten :
Bits of paper
Bits of paper
Lying on the floor
Lying on the floor
Makes them place untidy
Makes them place untidy
Pick them up
Pick them up.....
Why these rhymes are there, i understood now....

Banana peels
Banana peels
Stuck on my ceiling
Stuck on my ceiling
Makes them place unsightly
Makes them place unsightly
get Rich to clean it up
get Rich to clean it up.........and ask him how the heck did it get there in the first place....
heheee....

Nowadays, I would look at that string and ignore it for about 10 seconds and then I would say to myself, "self, I know you, and this is going to drive you nuts all day. Just take the 10 seconds to cut the darn thing off". Then I would and all would be good...

Ha ha. Well, you are young and I am already one year older between yesterday and today. :) So I do have a lot of things that irritate me - in every room of my house and several other things. I keep putting them off! Laziness? Not really. Indifference, may be. For example I want some tiling job to be done in my kitchen, I have funds, but organizing laborers is a tough call. The reason - my father doesnt want that thing done. So the wall gets dirty, and I stare at it wondering at my papa's aesthetic tastes. I avoid looking at them of course. Other would be a large collection of covers containing monthly statements from banks which come through courier. I thought everybody was educated enough to go green! But not these sophisticated banks. To top it all, my father doesnt allow me to tear them! And I put up with a lot of undesirable paper trash all around just because I prefer peace and quiet over my fastidiousness. May be it is the signs of aging. :)

Such a long long list, it got me thinking about my list of little irritations, I bet I can match yours, but at the end of the day, I would just think, why not just let it be. If you can solve the problem, solve it! If not, let the errors settle, who knows, something good may come out of it. After all, stamps with misprints are the most valuable...

aah...yes... it's been a while since i was collecting stamps. darn those emails and the fact that it doesn't need stamps hehe..
i had a few of those before (about 5 i think), but i never got annoyed over those misprints. i was elated and real happy every time i got one of those special stamps...
well, back to the subject at hand..i think we should compare lists one of these days. that might make for some good laughs on one of those dull days

and i hate those zero responses on my topics too... :(

Hi mario! Nope, it isn't just a "mario thing"! I would have
cut the damn piece of string from the beginning instead of having
it bother me all day! Why didn't you just cut it or ask someone
to cut if for you? I get bothered by silly little things like
that too, but I take action! I hate when I can't find the top
of a pen and if I can't find it I will throw the pen out! And
if a smude on something is bothering me enough I will go clean
it! And the bent fork, thrown in the garbage! I hate things
with imperfections that will drive me crazy and if there is
a way to fix them I do! It's a wonder I haven't thrown myself
out sometimes!

No you are not alone at all this is something that happens to me on a regular occasion and with all different things aswell, not just one thing in particular. I guess it is just our way of doing things and putting up with things. I think if I were to list everything that annoys me or irritates me to a stupid level then I would be here all night lol! But I guess I could say that one thing that is continously bugging me right now is a little tear that I have in my quilt, it is so annoying because I know that it is there and evrytime I make the bed I see the damn thing. I could just chuck it away like any normal person would but no not me for some reason I have to be different and keepnit tears and all lol!

and once you did realize about that little tear, it'll just annoy you until you really do something about it.... i know how that feels. unfortunately, i've got a dozen annoying things like that around me it's kind of sad and funny at the same time for me

I think you're in need of help...????
Its still not late...just kidding pal....
why are you so obsessive to such silly things...???
let me tell...I too get irritated at these silly things...he....he..
but I'll never let it irritate me again.....
Its not only you..
my cousin brother who lives with me have your character.....he's lazy..I have to kick him off the bed for him to go to work..
even I was like you..but learned a lot from ma mistakes...."enough of ma laziness" I said to myself one day....since then I'm active to ma knowledge..
but still I care not everything...
so it's again not only you...
Some housewives as you said are too much concerned about their kitchen or their cooking...Dr's call them OCD patients...
so what I'm saying is you must care something...but not everything....If not, one may get sick....
thanks for the topic..
have a great day/night.....

sometimes i do think i'm in need of some help
not that i'm being obsessive..just that it does look annoying, but at the same time i can't bring myself to cut it, but at the same time it annoys the heck out of me, and then i tend to get occupied about something else and forget about it until the next time i see it...which would usually be in about fifteen minutes, and then that whole annoying cycle starts again
i'm not sure if it's laziness or OCD..more like procrastination or a bad sign of a terribly preoccupied mind

I guess you cut off that irritating little string sticking out of the right cuff of your long sleeve shirt long ago. No, you were not alone with this phenomenon. From time to time all of us are visited by that little imp to sit on our left shoulder and whisper in our ear: "leave it, it's not important, you still have time to do it later." There's the rub here: since then our time gets spoiled. We seem to repay with interest the time we wish to gain by procrastinating.
Although it is not completely true; it depends on the situation.
Let's suppose that little imp is sitting on my left shoulder and whispering in my ear: "Mamaleone don't do the washing up; tomorrow will be just as good a day to do the washing up. Your favorite soap opera is just beginning on TV." Then mamaleone would watch TV with bad conscience. But if mamaloene were in a rush not to be late for the theater, certainly she could not care less about the washing up. Moreover, she would be proud of taking her seat in the last minute, just before the curtain would go up.
Tell me: would that little string dangling from your right cuff be so irritating if you rescued some casualties from a severe car accident? And then the Mayor would come to say thank you for your efforts?
(..and just at the moment when you would extend your hand for a hand-shake you would glimpse that little string sticking out from the right cuff o your long sleeve shirt?)

....and as i shake the Mayor's hand and see that little piece of string again, my mind would most probably go nuts as i ask myself, 'what the heck. after all that action and adventure i've went through, that little string is still sticking out there?'
