He actually did something inside the house!

My husband is an amazing man, he is the youngest sibling of 6. So ofcourse he was spoiled, what does not help most situations is that his mother was old fashioned so he never had to do much inside work.
I am and always will be an independent person able to fend for myself I will do all the same work that a man does IE: fix the plumbing, moe the lawn and bring in the wood.
But... I can not stand when the man of the house finds that inside work like dishes or laundry or helping with dinner can be below him. Today my husband called me and said "Honey I have a surprise for you" I immediately thought you washed the dishes finally. But to my surprise he did more than that he made a shelf for my laundry detergent and even did a few loads. He even went so far as to clean up the living room.
I know I am not alone in my annoyance of how frequent an issue like this is but what else is a wife to do but yell and scream or just simply go on strike and see if they get the hint.
I would love to hear how you get your husband/wife/significant-other to help around the house.

Wonderful for you! I have a wonderful husband who does what he can, when he can, in the house - even though his preference revolves around doing things outside. He will even cook and clean (occasionally)! I have found that challenging him, either with a strike or yelling match, does not work well at all. As a matter of fact, it sends him the opposite direction. What does work is showing him respect for himself and what he does at his job, in and around the house, and how he manages other responsibilities. That respect grows our love for each other, as a result.
