When you start a new category, do you rate everybody who responds in order to give them a chance to achieve a rating in that category whether it is good or bad??? I've noticed a lot of new discussion categories popping up lately & I see a lot of responders who have NO rating. I can only assume that it's because the member creating the category did not take the time to + or - those who helped get their category off the ground. The Guidelines say we are to rate; so, I've made it a habit to rate EVERY discussion, response, or comment I join in or create. I think it is our responsibility to rate any & all who join in on our discussion...especially when it's a newly created category. Do you rate those who help you earn here??? Why or why not???

Hi LadyM~ I really don't think that alot of mylotters, and I am including some of the "oldtimers" understand the rating system, especially what you just explained about starting up a new category. To be honest, since I have never started one up I didn't know all that either. But, the difference is that I always rate people in my discussions when they give a response anyway! And I also rate the discussion started when I respond to a discussion, at least most of the time. I know for a fact that there are some mylotters who are so busy starting one discussion after another that they don't even bother responding or going back to the discussion that they started and that really makes me upset and even after being told they are still doing it!

Herro Opal26 Herro LadyMarissa I only start 1-3 discussions at one time, as that is all I can handle. I am at mylot to have fun and earn a few extra pennies. I will be excited when I reach my first payout, but that is not my primary goal. Another goal is to help new members learn the ropes after they read FAQ's and Discussion Guidelines. I don't rate every comment, only the ones look like some thought was put into it. Prosperous mylotting

I'm NOT here to primarily earn money either. I love chatting & earning a little is a GREAT perk!!! Rating others is a good way to help them earn a little more. When somebody starts a new category & discussion, I feel it is their duty to rate everyone who responds to their discussion giving those members the opportunity to take their place in the category. I don't rate every comment, only the ones look like some thought was put into it. As far as I'm concerned, if they responded, they put some thought into it!!! I know some respond with jibberish. Those I give a - for wasting EVERYBODY'S time!!! That also gives them a chance to take their place in the category. I feel it is my job to assist any & all who respond whether it is positive or negative. If somebody makes the effort to make my discussion interesting, I feel they DESERVE a + even if it's not the most brilliant response I've ever heard. If they say a bunch of nothing, they are NOT making my discussion more interesting so they DESERVE a -. It is truly a rare occasion that I give a minus & an even rarer occasion that I don't rate at all!!!

Those that don't take care of their discussions are only creating topics. It is NOT a discussion until 2 or more people engage in a conversation. I do my darn best to comment to EVERY responder in my discussions. In others' discussions, I respond & if they comment back, I comment to their comment. That's what creates a discussion!!! Even those who disagree with me get a plus & a comment. I'm NOT going to fight with them; however, if they want a valid discussion, I will continue the debate!!! When I see somebody in a new group without a rating, I make sure to give them a plus & make a comment to their response even if the OP doesn't. To me it is just common courtesy to rate & acknowledge any member who joins in on our discussions!!! Since it is what they write that earns them their payout, it is my understanding that the ONLY way I can help them earn is by giving them a positive or negative rating.

Herro LadyMarissa I only rate the discussions that really stand out to me. I thought I read that ratings don't take effect until you reach a posting score of 100. I can read the guidelines and verify. I'm not sure how many people take the time to rate conversations. I always respond to people who comment on my start conversations. I consider it courteous. I also feel valued if people acknowledge my comments. Prosperous mylotting

me too. And sometimes i just forget to rate. And when i am impressed with the answer, i used to think how to reward the poster and i am then reminded about the rating.

Herro megrawab Herro LadyMarissa Herro GoAskAlice (Admin) Wow, did I learn a lot from this discussion. I want to particularly thank Admin for stepping in and clarifying. I'm going to continue my system of rating. I only use - for a direct violation of rules, e.g., posting an earning link in discussion. I can rate a discussion with 1 +, even if I disagree, it is the content, not my opinion that counts. I remember another member explaining the stars to me, including the color. Prosperous mylotting

It seems that I did not make my discussion clear here. I was NOT speaking of rating for our stars. I was speaking of kicking in the ranking in the category. Alice, if I'm wrong, I will give up & let this discussion die. If I'm right, I think a lot of people should know!!! As it stands at this particular moment on my screen behind your name it says "ranked 1 out of 25,118 in mylot.com". Behind my name it says "ranked 1,220 out of 25,118 in mylot.com". Behind megrawab it says "ranked 9,681 out of 25,118 in mylot.com". If you look at TexLadyPj there is no "ranked x???x of 25,118 in mylot.com. (That will be rectified once I know the answer). When I first came here, I was told by 2 seemingly knowledgeable veteran members that you had no ranking in a category until somebody gave you a + or -. After being rated, it took until the next day to see your ranking or to see where you stood on the leaderboard. This is ALL I have been speaking of here. Now that leads me to another question Alice...do you have to reach 100 posts before you can make it to the leaderboard??? I NEVER meant this discussion to be about the star rating!!! The Guidelines say...Be sure to rate users’ discussions, responses, comments, and photos for the new myLot reputation system. The myLot reputation rating is decided by myLot users To me that's saying that it is our job here to rate fellow members. Is the ranking not part of the rating system??? One of the GREAT things about myLot is that we ALL look at things differently. I am in NO way saying anybody is wrong. I'm just saying how I interpret the rules & try to convert a few that see it my way. I know I have joined a category here simply because it is important to a friend. Then if they don't rate me in that category, my understanding is that it is impossible for me to reach the leaderboard. That is until somebody does rate me in that category. If I understood wrong, I apologize. If I heard correct, I go back to what I was originally trying to say...it is our job to rate anybody who joins our new category to assist them on reaching the leaderboard thereby increasing their earnings!!! OK Alice, I'll hush now until you clear up the rules on this one.

I feel it is only fair also. If a discussion is good enough to garner my reply, I feel it deserves a plus. If it's sooooo bad that I cannot respond, I think it deserves a minus. Occasionally I run across a discussion that is well written, but the content is offensive in my eyes...those I don't rate at all. I only rate with a minus when it is a totally irrational response or when they are being rude & disrespectful. Since this discussion was mainly about rating for the leaderboard, even a minus rating is important!!! It is my understanding that we cannot get on the leaderboard until one of our responses or comments have been rated with a + or a -. So, I feel it is the responsibility of the topic creator to rate EVERYBODY who joins in on their first discussion. Like when you created the topic "Gissi", many joined because they love you & Gissi. They didn't join because Gissi sounded like an interesting topic. So, I feel it would be appropriate for you to rate everyone who joined in on your first discussion & really every discussion you started after that. However, if I started a discussion under "Gissi" I don't think you should have to keep up with who was rated & who wasn't. I really think the rating system here should be a case of mutual respect. So, If you respond to one of my discussions, you are pretty much guaranteed a "plus"...unless you respond with crap aka jibberish or as you say a stupid reply.

I admit, I haven't even thought about it in ages! But then, I don't really spend much time here anymore. I have been so busy the last year with so many things and now my situation has changed once again...

It appears to be one of those things that a lot of members just ignore or don't think much about. I guess that it is embedded in my mind mainly because of the big upgrade just about the time I started. Rating was considered important then & I assume that it still is. Many of us are just here for the fun. However, many depend on their income here to survive. As I said before, it only takes about a half second to hit the + or -. Who knows, it could possibly be helping somebody who depends on their earnings here!!!

Refreshing with an interesting twist on the oh-so-commonly-posted "do you rate everyone?" discussion. I like it. May we see some of the interest categories you've created?

Actually, TexLadyPj will only be ranked in mylot.com if she adds the interest. I explained all this above. Scroll up. Gee neildc, I see you're ranked at #1 in that interest.

Yes, I usually rate everyone unless they give only a few words or a one line answer that is not very good. Then I just pass it by because I haven't rated anyone a minus yet. I hesitate to do that if they took the time to answer at all. I just don't give them a positive rating if I don't think they deserve it. Some people take a lot of time and effort responding. When you can tell they made a thoughtful and careful response I think they certainly deserve to get a rating, especially from the person who started the discussion.

It appears I made myself as clear as mud in this. I'm not speaking of rating for the star reputation. I'm speaking of rating for the leaderboard ranking!!! I think it is important that when you start a new category that you rate EVERYBODY that joins in on your first discussion so they can have a chance of working their way up the leaderboard once they join your new group. It doesn't matter if it's a + or a -, it just needs to be a rating to get them started off in the category. I also think it is respectful of those who join in on your discussions if you give them a rating for their star also. I ONLY give a minus if the response makes NO sense or if they are rude, obnoxious, or disrespectful. If they reply with a healthy response, I feel that they have put sufficient thought & effort and should receive a plus. On a very rare occasion, I get a response that isn't good enough for a plus, yet not bad enough for a minus. Then, I just skip over & don't rate; but those are few & far between!!!

Hi Marissa, I didn't realize that the star + or - rating also affected the category rating. I guess I didn't understand how the category rating worked. I'm glad you started this discussion. I'm still a bit confused about it, but I guess I'll learn more along the way the longer I am here : )

I rate everyone! Well, I "+" them. I never "-" anyone but sometimes if someone is obnoxious I won't rate them at all. I didn't know that the purpose was to rank on the leader boards, though, I thought it helped their star go up!

It helps both. If you're never rated, you don't go up on the leader board is my understanding. I seldom minus anybody, but I do with the particularly obnoxious!!! I feel that doing nothing for them is the same thing as giving them a plus. Some just don't earn their plus. I don't just reward the best of the best with a plus. I make sure I reward the worst of the worst with a minus though.

i know that we are supposed to rate every one, either negatively or positively. it is mentioned in the guidelines and i am aware of it. but most of the times, i just forgot to rate them especially when the topic i have created earned a good responses from the members and i get to be very busy and concentrated in commenting to them.

@Alice. thanks for leaving a comment and for having my response clarified. but just like LadyMarissa have said, the Guidelines stated that "be sure to rate, etc..." is this some kind of a conflict between the statement of the FAQ and the Guidelines?

It's not the FAQs I spoke of. It's in the Guidelines...Be sure to rate users’ discussions, responses, comments, and photos for the new myLot reputation system. The myLot reputation rating is decided by myLot users. As a myLot user, I believe it is saying I should rate as I see fit!!!
