Toll ways- do you use them?

Australia

The price of certain toll bridges here in Australia is rising again this month. It is getting to the point where it is nearly $10 for a return trip via the toll bridge to get to where I live. I did a survey a couple of weeks ago that asked me how much I would be willing to pay to use the toll bridge. I came to the conclusion that if it keeps rising I will drive through the city instead and put up with the horrible traffic to avoid paying the toll. Are there traffic tolls where you live and do you have a problem with paying it?

We have the same predicament as yours here in the Philippines. Our toll regulators also have announced to increase its toll in our South Luzon Expressway this month by you know how much? by as much as 250%. The good thing was that our new President, Pres. Noynoy Aquino deferred its implementation, of course, at the moment. And I am pretty sure they will still get the go signal later on. Imagine how much money each motorist will shed base on 250? increase?

Quite depressing. Yeah, I hope that's the end of it. The problem is if they do some improvement on the road especially if it is a major one, sure enough, the cost of improvement will be passed on to the motorists.

I agree! There was a new tunnel that opened up through the city but the toll was about $6 AU one way. No one used it because it was too expensive so now they have lowered the price. The people have the power!

we have a toll way through my state. You cant pay at the booth anymore, they bill you by your license plate. I took one hour, drove to my brothers which would have been 2 more hours. Of course because I am an idiot when it comes to paying paper bills, that one hour ended up costing me $79. So no I will never take that toll way again!

There are no toll roads where I live, but having recently driven across country I did encounter several and they were quite expensive but there was no reasonable way to avoid them. When I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area there were bridge tolls. The traffic jams they caused were as annoying as having to pay.

We have toll roads going into the city here. I rarely drive into the city, so on the few occasions that I do I don´t mind paying the fees as it saves allot of time.

What part of Australia are you in Coffeeshot? The tolls here in South East QLD have just risen but I am not sure of the price now. I have an electronic account that gets debited automatically whenever I use the toll roads. I do not use them very often but I did last week while going to the airport over the new Gateway Bridge over the Brisbane River. I have no problem with paying the tolls. My account can be used in Sydney and Melbourne as well and I found it very useful having the account on my last trip through both of those cities. It saved a lot of time using the new toll road in Melbourne compared to the old free road to where I grew up.

the traffic toll in our country is also very expensive..but i prefer to use them because i don't like traffics at all and i always want an easy access to go to the places i wanted to go at the earliest possible time..

We don’t have toll booths in Western Australia and I feel thankful for that after I read your discussion! Almost ten dollars, are you kidding me? What can you do if you have to drive that way every day? That is crazy! Sorry…It is a bit of a shock because we’ve never had them here; to get from one side of the river to the other we have very efficient freeways and they are free! Parking in the city is expensive and I would imagine that it is where you are as well. I don't blame for wanting to avoid those high tolls by driving through the city; I would do the same!

I used to use the tollway all the time but I feel like it is a pain to be driving fast and then have to slow down just to pay, I wish it were like the older days when the roads were free because now it seems like the tollways are even getting stopped up with traffic too.

Only I have to be fast with the traffic that I might use toll - bridge. Otherwise, I rather not paying that high price for it. The toll bridge not as high as in Australia. In my state, the average price is about $2, one way. It shouldn't that bad for just one day.

Hi coffeeshot...yes we have toll bridges around here, and toll roads as well. We have the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and the cost is almost $20.00 to drive from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. There are not any toll bridges near where I live, but I've run into them while on vacations. Some have very minimal fees, others are quite high.
