Why do kids insist on putting things up their nose???

Ok, so I have 3 kids, they are intelligent and sometimes too inquisitive. My middle daughter I can forgive somewhat, her incidence occurred when she was only 2 1/2 years old. While eating her dinner one day she decided to test if a piece of sweetcorn would fit up her nose - surprise! it did. After frantic mother phone calls and panic as could not get a grip to remove it a bit of nose tickling and a resultant sneeze and out it flew. We still tease her now at the age of 9. However my youngest daughter yesterday at the age of 5, decided to put a bead up her nose. Now forgive me if I sound unreasonable, but she is quite bright. She goes to school every day and understands the ideas of things being dangerous, but she still sat down and thought "Hmmm, will this bead fit in my nose?" and then screamed hysterically when it did!
As an adult is there anything you have done that was completely ridiculous but you could not help yourself but try?
