I've watched Star Wars the Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith again this afternoon. And it got me wondering if George Lucas will do remake of the earlier Star Wars Episodes (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi) with new casts, better effects and all. True, with the technology today, it would certainly have a much modern feel to it. But personally, I think that the effects before are already fine as well as the actors. So I don't I would want a remake of the first 3 films.
What do you guys think? Should they do a remake?

it would suck if they make a remake of the earlier films. they're already good the way they are. besides, it amazed me how they did the more recent films. it felt modern but stayed true to the way the earlier films were made.

My thoughts also. My girlfriend was saying that they should a remake (even though she hasn't watched 4-6) because she thinks that since they were old films, they would have crappy effects. I told her that yeah maybe the effects were better, but Star Wars 1-3 still has that Star Wars feel to it.

Well here is a bit of movie insider information for you. They are currently working on a new audio track for the original movies with better sound effects. Now there is no date for a new release but speculation is that at some point in the future the Star Wars movies will be issued on Blu-ray and speculation is that the Blu-ray release may coincide with a re-release on the big screen which may also feature a 3D conversion for them.
Now for me I love the originals, in their original format and the thought of remaking them is just wrong. But at the same time I am not overly keen on the regular tampering that George Lucas does with improving the look and sound of them and as such I can't say I would be that enthusiastic if he re-released them with a post conversion to 3D applied.

I agree! I also think that 'tampering' with the originals is like wrong. They're already fine and amazing in their own way to start with. Besides, I don't think it will be a great film in 3D as 3D converted films are not as good as the Avatar movie by James Cameron since he used cameras for 3D.
Though I don't agree with what they're going to do, I would still love to watch the old movies and how they look like with modern cinematics today.

God no. The last 3 Star Wars movies were really bad comparing to the original trilogy.

I don't know, I enjoyed watching them. They had stunts and effects that couldn't be done in the originals. The way they showed the powers of the Jedi and the Sith has a good way to them though.

In a lot of ways he kinda already has remade them. Every time the movies are released again on DVD or in a theatrical re-release, he's always added some new special effects and remastered a lot of the scenes. If you don't believe me, get your hands on an old VHS copy of the first release and then compare it with the recent DVD release. You wouldn't think he'd made a lot of changes, but when you watch them side by side you'll see a load of differences!
Personally, I'd go see a remake if one came out but I don't think one is really needed.

Originals are originals. They can't be copied.Although the movies in 1970s were a little far away from me,I don't think they should be remaked. Also, Geoge Lucas would not like to remake them, I think. The music, actors, plot, and many other things have become wonderful memories to the people who watched the earlier 3 movies.

hey jerikjames.as the technology is developing day by day we people are excited to watch new thing on film industry.when technology is increasing the lack of subject for films are there.so to make a film so many old series of films are remaked and ofcourse with new castes.i think it will make a new era of film making and new generations can see old films in their own way.
