When Money Is Tight Do You Find Yourself Saying...

"What a rip off!" more often? I do! I shall give you an example. Well, I'm one of those people that likes to surf the net (or window-shop in the real world) and I'm like that even when I have money. A kind of strange hobby, if you like. The fact that I don't have to spend any money is actually quite therapeutic, weird as it may seem! Anyway, I like to look at furniture online. No idea why, I just like it. There are lots of legitimate sites selling furniture and now and again I come across a new one whilst doing searches. One of which is shown below (believe me, I have no connections with any site whatsoever so feel free to take a look) and, yes, I know what you are thinking. "WHAT A RIP OFF!" It's that price because it says "Italian Furniture" I'm convinced. I've seen similar furniture for miles less wonga than that. Haha! However, if I was loaded would I think differently? Would I still think the furniture was a rip-off or would I buy some? Interesting thought! http://www.trendy-products.co.uk/index.php

There are some people who don't even look at the price when they purchase something as long as they like how it looks. You might still find some things overpriced but maybe not as much when you don't have cash

Hello! Yes, I know what you mean. Mum's friend and work colleague has a husband with a very well-paid job and if it's new technology (he bought one of the first plasma screens a few years ago) he just has to have it. Pays a premium that way too because it's like anything with new technology..always dear at the start then comes down in price. He won't wait though!

I used to think that if you paid a lot for something, it was worth it. That was back then but not anymore. Lets take a stove or fridge for example. They used to last and last for years and years, well nowadays, they're built to last 5 years only. So why pay $2,000. for a fridge when I can get one just as pretty and cold for half that price. Same for stoves, you can buy some at $2,000. and more but I bought mine at $399 and its doing the job well......and it'll last only 5 yrs or so. Same for furniture Im afraid. They dont build them the way they used to, so why pay more? Find something you like and then search for same at a much lower price, wait for the sales. No I wouldnt buy expensive furniture or appliances or anything else for that matter even if I had money. Ive always said it was a rip off only because they will sell you something at a high price in June, then sell that same item at half the price or even less in September. I wait for the BIG sales if I need something. If ever Im stuck having to buy an appliance, then I'll buy it at warehouse price, maybe an item from last year.

I'm not as big on branded items as I used to be and neither is my Mum. For example, she bought a Hoover washing machine less than 5 years ago and it was more trouble than it was worth..literally! Recently, we both picked a Hotpoint Aquarius from the Comet shop near to her home, which is still a "branded" item so to speak but it was the simplest to use (the other one was overly complicated) but at least there was £40 off it and we know it's going to last as John's had his model for about 10 years. Doesn't always work that way though, I agree, so she has taken out the shop's 5 year cover which is split into 4 payments, that way if the machine does go "defunct" she can have it replaced if it can't be fixed. With the furniture I mentioned, I have a thing about glass and chrome. The prices vary wildly but I know for a fact that all glass in this country is tempered (very strong) by law so to buy something that is overpriced would be silly as the cheaper stuff is very similar. Take the word "Italian" out of the equation; save a fortune lol. I hope all that makes sense!

Yup, made sense!! Our glass furniture has to be very strong here too.

I do understand how you feel. In fact I myself love to window shop, and yes it is therapeutic to me as well. It is a stress reliever for me too. And yes sometimes I find myself saying that but I also understand that sometimes you pay for the quality of the product and then I understand why such an item will be priced like that. It doesn't mean I would like to buy it even if I have the money. I do consider the value of my money and what to buy with it so even if I find something that is of high quality I won't necessarily buy it even if I have the money to buy it. I always consider if I need it and if it gives the right value for my hard earned money.

I know what you mean when you say that you consider the value of your money...that is so true, especially if one hasn't had money for a long time, like me lol. My first monthly salary (if I ever get one) will be like winning the lottery for me. The temptation would be very strong to blow it all but I wouldn't do that; I'd set aside some for my ISA, which is activated but has no money in it at present!
