Noisy nights

At 12:30AM this morning a very loud gun went off, we had all the windows open to try to keep cool enough to sleep. It woke us both us and then we realized that the Raccoons must be after the chickens again. We have lost 5 chickens to them in the last two weeks. So it was deceided to shoot them. We tried to live trap them so that they could be relocated but it just didn't work, the poor things are just to darn smart, they keep figuring out how to get the chickens and how to stay out of the cage. This morning we were told the raccoon was scared but not killed, now I wonder how long it will take for them to come back for chicken dinner?

I hate noisy so much. Noisy days or night is too fatigue. I'm headache and feel so bad. I think the raccoon will come whenever they hungry. what do you think about some traps?

I've read that you can buy coyote and other wild urine at feed stores that will keep them away. Have you tried stringing chicken wire around the chickens' yard with a foot or so hanging over toward the outside so they can't climb up? I hope you won't let your dog out there, raccoons are scrappy fighters and often win against dogs.

No we want no dog verses raccoon here, the raccoon may die but they often take the dog with them.

Goodness well I hope that he stays away this time that the shot has scared him enough not to come back again

Well, we don't typically have raccoons in the area that we live in, so that is one pest that we don't normally have to deal with. However, we do have possuums around here and if I had my way about it, I think that I'd like to shoot them if that was a possibility. All that said, I think that I'd be extra vigilant with the care of your chickens until the raccoon has met his final end. Who was it that was watching out for the chickens?

Ok so this might sound totally crazy but Ive never even seen a live chicken so bare with me. Cant you keep your chickens IN a cage, instead of trying to cage the racoon?.....Im just saying. We have raccoons here but they're mostly after our garbage but they cant pick a lock as of yet......Im thinking that give or take a few years, they'll own a master key

Chickens are fully caged, but smart raccoons keep finding weakness in the cage and getting in. Just when we think we have thme stopped they find another way.

I lived in suburbia so there are no racoons here! It is a shame that the racoons had to be shot but what alternative is there if they are attacking the poor chickens! It is so hard to imagine not being able to sleep due to the heat as I sit here next to my heater freezing my belongings! Hope the racoon won’t return too soon...
