Canada

Wow, we're going through one hell of a heatwave now here. They say it covers nearly all of Canada and the Eastern part of the US and now it'll be the Western part also. I never thought Id see such crazy things being done here to keep cool. Some have turned their pickup trucks into pools . My a/c has been on since last Friday, we're ok inside the house but I dont dare go out. Hubby goes with the dog. Ive been making green tea and all kinds of fruit popsicles. We have a pool but since its outdoors, Im not going out there!! Is it hot where you are? What do you do to keep cool?

It's been a scoarcher here this week. We have topped 100+ degrees here for the 3rd day now. Right now the computer is saying that it is 102 outside. So to stay cool we are hanging out in the a/c, drinking plenty of water and doing as little as possible. The scary thing is my son has a baseball game at 7:30 tonight. It is going to be miserable just to sit there and watch it, don't know how they are going to play with it being this hot.

WOW, they've cancelled the games here, they say its too hot even for the kids. They've opened a/c public places for those who dont have it. We're beating recoreds high here and Im not going out........I told dad that I wouldnt drive there as he finds it just right in this temp and wont turn on his a/c, so no way I can do any cooking or cleaning in that temp. Hope they'll cancel the game where you are!!

They didn't cancel our game last night. Our boys won 13-12 in a hard faught game and my son hit his first homerun ever. (Can you tell I'm proud of him) It was 100 degrees when we started the game and he had to catch for 3 1/2 innings. They only had 8 kids show up so they were playing short handed to start with and then he started dehydrating. The coach pulled him from the game and made him come in and sit for a minute. And it only lasted a minute. I streatched him out and he went trotting to the outfield. Thank goodness kids are durable. Temps are down a little today only suppose to get up to 95 so I hope tonights softball game is a little cooler. At least he will get to wear shorts and doesn't have to wear the gear and helmet to catch.

YAY Congratulations to your son!! Yes I can tell you're very proud and you should be. Yes kids can take the heat better than we do. Make sure he drinks LOTS and LOTS of water. Lets hope you win the game this evening also then.

Okay, don't want to sound like a complainer when others are experiencing three digit numbers, but here it is in the lower to mid-90's and though it can be hotter, my house faces south and is like an oven when the temps rise..Plus no pool or air conditioning makes for a miserable day, even with fans hitting me full blast..

In the room I am in the drapes are closed, but in the kitchen they are opened for my plants and light. Though it's never been diagnosed, I believe I have a minor case of S.A.D. where I need a certain amount of sunlight. And you are right, the ice in a bowl in front of a fan does work, I've done it before, thanks for the reminder..Now to keep the puppies from eating all the ice...

Im sweating just reading your post now Carmelanirel.....and Im sitting in a/c now!! Sure hope you have all your drapes closed. Someone said to buy a bag or ice and sit it in a big bowl in front of the fans. Apparently the air blowing over the ice will be much cooler. Hope that works for you!!

Yes, it is very hot in Malaysia now. It is nothing new to us living in this country to be forever at the mercy of the harsh tropical climate. We are used to be sunbaked when we go outside in the yard. Even with an umbrella or hats over our heads, the heat from the sun is unbearable sometimes. Fortunately, I am on holiday in Australia now which is having its winter season so I escaped the hot weather back home temporarily. Once I go back I might need to be dressed scantily to adjust to the sudden change of temparature like coming out of the freezer and shoved in to the oven.

Yes Im sure you get very hot summers in Malaysia. They said on the news last night that the hottest place on earth yesterday was Kuwait with 50C !!!!! now DATS HOT!! lol. I have a friend in Sydney, Australia and right now he is moaning about it being cold haha....they call 17C cold But Im sure if you're having 40C, that 17C sounds like winter. Hope you stay cool and yes be careful when you come back and have water with you because you'll need it. Enjoy your holiday in Oz!!

Its not too bad here today (in Missouri) only a high around 90. Last week we got into the high 90s and triple digits, but the worst thing here is the constant humidity, it was 85% yesterday! We've had our A/C on since March though. Crazy I know, but my hubby works 10-12 hours days outside so he deserves to be comfortable at home.

Dont feel bad for having your a/c on all the time. We all need a break sometimes and the heat can be deadly so it has to be taken seriously. Its even hotter here today and VERY humid. They forecast rain for tomorrow and of course, thunderstorms. Fingers crossed we dont get a nasty storm with tornadoes. Lets all jump in a cold shower now lol. Thanks for sharing.

Here in China, the central observatory has announced red/orange high temperature alert many times. The temperature has reached 40 degree centigrade in some place. That's really a hell. And in normal cities, the temperature can reach 35 degree centigrade at noon easily. But my hometown is next to the sea, the natural air conditioner save us from the hot hell. The temperature here is 5-6 degree centigrade lower than inland cities. Only about 28-29 degree centigrade. Though we are also not comfortable here, it is real heaven compared with other places. We can tolerate without air conditioners open.

It sure sounds like you're also having a hot hell in China also. I thought this week would be cooler for us but its not, again we have another heatwave but I stay indoors and drink lots of water and have lots of cold showers. Thanks for sharing.

Its even more hot for us here today. They say it'll cool down a little Saturday. Hope you can keep cool then.

It got up to 104 degrees here today in central Virginia. It was the same yesterday too. Tomorrow not much cooler, if any at all. I'm hating the heat tremendously. I've been staying inside most of the time like you. I have to take the dog outside every few hours and I drag him in if he doesn't go within a few minutes and I tell him "too bad". It is just awful.

Awww poor doggie!! Well hubby goes out with our dog, believe it or not, its the dog wanting to come back inside LOL. He's always indoors so he's not used to the heat. I know how hot it can be, we're having the same sh*t here now too. lets hope its going to be over soon.

Yes, it really it is hot. And it just arrived all of sudden. I don't think that we've had this bad of a heatwave in quite some time. It's nice that it's warm, as opposed to some of the colder weather that some areas have been having. However, the high temperature isn't really all that pleasant.

I just hide at home. I hate the heat and humidity and I dread even the short trip from my apartment to work and back. I usually spend so much time outdoors during the summer, but this is way too hot! I only have air conditioning in one room, the living room, so we've moved our mattress there. Otherwise its too warm at night to sleep!

I hate the heat also, I feel as if my whole body swells up and thats why im sitting at home with the a/c on and I refuse to go out until its colder. What a great idea to move your mattress in the living room, good for you. Lets all keep cool then.

Yup! It's been hot. And they say it's going to be hotter in the next couple of days. We don't have a/c at home, but we do leave all the windows open at night. I might even drop by the store later today to pick up a fan. There is a pool in the clubhouse where I live, so I may drag the kids to the pool later on. I'm not really a fan of the warm weather.

Same for me, I prefer a lovely snowstorm haha!! Hope you can get a fan and get some ice at the same time. Sit the ice in front of the fan and the air will be much cooler. Go to the pool then. Hope it'll cool you and the kids off!!

wow, pick up trucks turned into pool is that true or just some metaphoric statement. Anyways, now a days it is really hot and I wish people could do something to it. The sun gives off that hot temperature and it burns my skin. I always bring my umbrella and used it even early in the morning and when I get home I usually turn on my air con. I don't think i can last that heat .

Yes its for real, this guy used large plastic sheets to cover his pick up box and he filled it with water. He even has a pump to keep the water clean. It was on our local news lol. I have my a/c on also, its been going all week now. Lets hope this heatwave will be over soon.

Where I live there is very hot all my house windows is opened sometimes they are closed with curtains, because sun is too bright. I do not want go ouside, because there is so hot and easily can get sunstroke If you do not wear a cap. In home I can only sweat, because we do not have a ventilator. I can go ouside, because I have sunburned to fight with this problem I often drink water with ice. Have a nice day!

I think its been too hot at many places around the world lately. Same for me here, its never been this hot before. They say it was 50 C in Kuwait, the hottest place in the world yesterday. I dont even want to think about it. I cool down also by having a cold shower......ahhhh feels good, doesnt it? Maybe you can get a fan and put lots of ice cubes in front of the fan so the air blowing over the ice will be cooler. Thanks for sharing!

Well it was 101 yesterday with thunder and lightening, today is the same, our air conditioning quit yesterday afternoon so we just have the fans and we are using cold packs from the freezer to keep us cool until we cn get someone out here to fix the thing. Ao far that is working.
