I believe that everyone of us has a purpose of serving God. Well, I don't want to speak like I'm a saint or anything, that's just what I think. I suggest you read the PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE by Rick Warren, and I hope you'll get the answer on your question. You're going to read it for 40 days and it's gonna change your perception in life. I hope it helped.

That book would be helpful if you believe that you are created by God, that God exist and He is the way to your full fulling what your purpose maybe.
If you are a non-believer this book is useless..

I firmly believe that the purpose of life is to find tour soul mate and to live happily together in a complete harmony. No need of enormous sums of money or big houses, you have to be happy with your own good health and your girlfriend/boyfriend. Anyone should find their soul mate and live a peaceful life through God.

I think that is one of the many reason why we are here, to find our purpose in life. Life is so mysterious and sometimes can be just as simple as random events that you choose to do everyday.
If you believe in Religion of divine beings, it can change a bit ,as you believe that following your dogmas or doctrines are your purpose.
some die without having figured out what is their reason for existence.
