I seldom use closed shoes for the reason of smelly feet. I don't know how to fight it, I even tried putting foot powder but doesn't give me good results. Any tips on avoiding having smelly feet? The only solution that I can think of is not to wear closed shoes. I feel embarrassed that some people might smell it. I need help.

Hello hanagi,
Your post just reminded me of a high school classmate who was notorious for his smelly feet. It was just too much that the foul odor comes out even if he doesn't take off his shoes. I can still recall how he rejoiced on the day the bad smell was totally gone. He was then bragging that the only solution that worked for him is powdered alum (tawas).
You can try doing the following:
1. Wash your feet with water then massage/scrub with powdered alum. Make sure to include spaces between toes.
2. As much as possible, get rid of your old socks. Change your socks everyday.
3. Spread powdered alum inside your shoes. Let it stay until smell is gone off the shoes.
Hope this helps.

Hi, @oo0kulasa0oo! I agree! Alum is very effective. @hanagi, you can make liquid alum. It's more user friendly.

@Albert1989, use alum. It's very effective. Make your own liquid alum to ensure it's pure alum.

I used to sweat excessively on my feet and that had actually caused the odor. A friend said that when our feet sweat excessively it may mean that our internal organs may be experiencing some problems. I've since used a detox patch on my feet before sleep but not as often as I used to now. And my feet do not sweat as much as they used to either.
I'm not trying to scare you as it may be just my personal experience. Try asking around too and I think it's always worth it. It's better to be sorry now than late. Take care!

Do you take showers or baths? For some people, if you only take showers you aren't really paying attention and cleaning your feet. We don't think about it when we're taking showers. But maybe try taking baths where your feet are soaking in a soapy water and it's easier to clean them. Or just wash your feet separately by soaking them in soapy water or something like that?

First of all, make sure your shoes are clean and odor free. Then wash your feet. Dry them really well, even between the toes. You can spray them with deodorant/antiperspirant, it does not have to be a special one for feet, just whatever you use anywhere else on your body. Apply a dusting of powder to your feet. Can apply to your shoes as well. Wear socks, thin ones in the summer. When you are done for the day, put your shoes somewhere to air out, and if possible wear a different pair tomorrow.

Do your feet sweat a lot when you wear shoes or socks? I have had the same problem too and that was the cause for me. I make sure and bathe my feet well. If I have to put on closed shoes I wear socks because not doing so does make the shoes and my feet smell. Also I put a little deodorant on my feet or some baby powder on the inside of my socks.

Wash them. Haha. Um seriously though there's some things you can do. Avoid wearing thick socks. Don't wear cotton or wool socks. Both are going to make your feet sweat. Wear thin socks so your feet get some airflow, but don't wear shoes without socks, because sweaty shoes are alot smellier than sweaty socks. Wear open shoes or sandals whenever you can. Your feet need to breathe every now and then. And wash them as often as possible. Some people take like 3 showers a day, because they're feeling like they're dirty, but really all they need to do is wash their feet.

My sister had really stinky feet before and the main reason for it is that she doesnt change her socks everyday. She wear the same shoes every day even if its wet. She also doesnt wash her feet most of the time so I guess that's the reason why she has stinky feet. You can avoid those things if you want to get rid of the smell. You can always wash your feet with alum if possible.

I've had some shoes that gave me the feeling would make my feet to smell, I don't know if they would but I puted some baby powder, you know with a nice smell and all (kind of Lindsay Lohan recently) and didn't smell at all.
I think it keeps the feet dry. The swet is what makes smell so.

You can try using some sprays - a friend of mine told me that it helped him.
My feet doesn't smell now, but before time they smelled really bad.
It depends on what shoes are you using.
I had one pair that smelled really bad (they was fluffy inside), but now I'm using leather ones and they don't really smell. I'm still washing my legs almost everytime I use them, but not because of the smell - I'm trying to avoid it, before it is really here...
One more factor are your socks. Some socks are made of some material (I can't really explain it, but they are with fluff inside too) and they smell in combination with closed shoes. I'm using thin socks and have no problems!
So I would recommend you to check your shoes, wash your legs (after buying new shoes) every time you use them and change your socks regularly. It should work since it works fine for me!

hanagi, you are stressed out. The odor that comes from the feet is usually a sign that you are worrying about many things. Drink lots of water. Relax. Continue using powder just to dry the perspiration. Socks could help, too.
