what does shawty means?

Im curious about this word SHAWTY, its a slang word I dont understand. Can anyone enlighten me? I always heard this word in song's lyrics, just like in Pyramid and Eenie Meenie.

shawty is a slang for shorty. shorty, on the other hand, is a slang for girlfriend.

i think so. i think the male counterpart of this could be 'boo'. i'm not so sure about this though.

Like others have already stated, it means "shorty" because the person is short and it's pretty much always used to refer to a girl because girls tend to be shorter than males on average. I've never heard a song or anything where that word was used on a guy, so I assume it's a slang term specifically for girls and not used for the men.
