I often go on week after week cooking different meals and then it will hit me that although there are a lot of different meals I am in a rut and cook the same ones every time. I then have to go through the cook book and start on new recipes and yes I get in a rut with those lol

Sometimes I'm not happy with repeating recipes, sometimes I am. It's good to have easy, reliable recipes in your repetoire. It's also good to have a vast array of choices, should you tire of sameness.

Hi,
I also face the same problem.sometimes, I am cooking
the same dishes over and over again. And i feel so bored.
I am not a good cook and only can cook simple dishes.
I also plan for my next day menu,at least I get all the ingredients
needed ready in the fridge and next day, I just need to get them clean,
cut and start my cooking project.
I am lucky that my son and husband loves to eat vegetables,so everyday, I
will cook one dish for vegetable, the rest is 1 soup and 1 fish/meat.
I do have some recipe books, but some of the ingredients are complication and
I have to spent lot of times in the cooking process, bit lazy to do it.
So I will modify the recipe into my own style and make it simple.
The taste is acceptable.

I do the same thing. When you have seven meals to cook a week, not counting breakfast and lunch, and a limited grocery budget I tend to make the same thing over and over. Now, with my kids out of school its even worse since I have to make sure there is lunch stuff available. I would love to find a low-cost recipe swap or site. Although, I'm sure I would get in a rut with that as well LOL

I try to mix things up as well, but most of the time I make the same things because of what is on sale. I have to be careful on how much I spend and need to keep within a budget. The recession has hit us hard and my husband only works parttime and I am out of work. I am trying to start an online company to sell some of my crafts. I try to look for easy cheap recipes. If you have any ideas please let me know, send me a PM.

No not at all, what I cook all depends on my mood, the weather and what special offers there are in the shops!!
However when I was a child ( many moons ago )I could tell what day it was by what meal we had - we had the same meal every week!!
Roast on a Sunday, leftovers on a Monday, Lamb chops Wednesday, Shepherd's Pie on a Thursday, Fish Pie on a Friday and Steak and Kidney pie on a Saturday!!

Yeah, I think we have the same situation... LOL get rut and cook the same meals every week, and sometimes always with the same persons. You know, I ever said to my friend why dont we try to cook the other menus or find something from the cook book, than we try it.. and, we don't like it... LOL we just like almost the same recipies and we only change the the meat, maybe chicken, burger or fish. But I often go on week after week cooking the same meals.

My boyfriend is a picky eater so I mostly cook alot of the same things over and over but sometimes I will switch it up. Like my Boyfriend loves chicken alfredo so sometimes Ill make it into chicken alfredo pizza instead of making pasta. Mostly its chicken and brown rice almost everyday so I try to use all different sauces. If I want to eat veggies I have to make just for one cause he wont eat any veggies and I cant use veggies in the sauces or recipes cause he will just pick at his food. Hes kinda like a little kid when it come to food

Yes, I'm in a serious rut. I no longer enjoy cooking now that I'm older, single and the kids are gone. I generally buy a pre-cooked chicken (cheaper than a fresh one!) and pick on it all week.
But tonight I'm having some of that chicken with something different--noodles and reduced calorie Alfredo sauce! I'll throw in some broccoli (frozen) and some shrimp and top it with some Parmesan cheese. Woo hoo, I'm a gourmet!
It's hard to come up with healthy meals that don't take a lot of cooking when I'm trying to lose weight. I might just go completely over to cold foods this summer like chicken, rice cakes, fruit, cottage cheese, etc. Now, THAT'S a rut!

I really do not plan my meals. I think that it would be easier on me if I did. Whatever I decide to cook I will just go home and cook it. We have been eating out a lot lately, which is not really good. I guess you can say I cook the same stuff over and over. I have cookbooks but I do not use them

omg....me too....I'm tired of my own meals! i do remember what I cooked the week before and then come weekends we get to gos or eat out so i keep on thinking that my family will forget about what i cooked in that week but still go in a rut anyways the following week. lol i'm an average cook cause i only like to cook what I can cook. i don't like experimenting when i get to like some meals from restaurants. I usually get away with making different kind of pasta though. It's still pasta....but different pasta noodles. lol

I don´t like to cook the same meals every day or every week because I mainly cook for pleasure and that would be boring. I go to a farmer´s market and buy many different veggies. Then meals vary depending of which veggies I will use. I don´t cook with a cookbook anymore although sometimes I read recipes as inspiration.
Take care and happy posting!

I do. My kids are a little picky so I am stuck with the same old stuff each week. Chicken, steak, hot dogs. I run out of ideas to change up my chicken meals.

I have done this before and maybe even now,but never looked at it being in a rut. Good way to put it. I will have to look at the recipe book too and see if I can come up with something new for next week dinner. I do however try not to fix the same thing each week but I do fix the same all the time. Time for a change. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

I always try to learn new things every week. I dont want to cook the same meals every day too. But there are certain kinds of food that we really like eating and it doesnt matter if its every day or every week. lol Anyway, this week I tried to make some soft tacos and my husband and I liked it so we're having it more often.
