I read recently in the news that Wal-Mart intends to fight a mediocre fine levied by OSHA for the trampling death of one of its employees. Is it right for them to fight or should they just take responsibility for their actions.

They need to take responsibility and just pay the fine. There were better and safer ways they could have handled that day like having a guard at the door, only allowing a very small number of people in at a time and lock the door behind them. They should also go over the video tape for that day so they can get a good look at all the rushing and trampling idiots and sue the crap out of them just for being idiots.
